Bosa's goal last year was to beat the CB group in body fat. He won. And he's in even BETTER shape now.

Deebo is definitely not in the same shape this time last year for sure. So keep an eye on that esp. at the start of TC.

i am amused at the niner spin machine trying to jam the back up center from last year jake down our throats. sounds like the media and some fans here are swallowing that bath water.. not me

That was funny when Kyle said he made the team (last year) and he wouldn't have hesitated playing him if Mack got hurt. Dude didn't even make the 53...and of course he'd start if Mack got hurt. Who else would have? Brunskill was stuck at RG. There is definitely spin. That doesn't mean it can't work out great but...

Kyle Shanahan doesn't seem to think so and he has the benefit of the doubt on lockdown.

I mean if he loved what he saw and didn't want to risk further injury then idk what's the problem. All otas are for is to see where they're at and to give them tasks on what to do until they're back for TC.

I just think the players can use the reps together.

I agree with you Mayo. What does everyone say Lance needs? Reps. This is not Peyton in his 10th year, give the kid some more 7 on 7 and 11 on 11 reps throwing to his receivers and getting coaching points from his coaches. Lance even said he likes OTAs much better than the QB schools where he's throwing against air to some random dudes. Make it a half session and sit most of the vets. Have Lance throw to the backs and TEs, anything! There's only 12 practices before camp, somehow that's enough? Oh well, he still has the last week of phase 3 before the break. After that we go back to fishing for 3DQB clips and analyzing Lance's throwing motion and ball wobble at TEU like it's the Zapruder film.

Me either. Hope we can get Tretter for at least 1 year to ensure we have a decent guy in the middle of the line.

He does this every year.

There's too many practices.

Here is what Shanahan said earlier this week.

"I look at the offseason as you're allowed to have 12 practices, nine of them are called OTAs and three are called mini-camp, but I just look at it as 12 practices and I don't think you need 12 practices. I never have. And that's why we've never done 12. I think 11 is the most we've done, but you don't decide that before it starts, you decide that based off of 90 guys, you decide that based off where you think your team is and by the time you get close to 12, I'm always like, 'alright, we've had too much let's stop.' And that's why I usually end up canceling the last day or the last few days. I still don't know where I'm at or our team's at. I don't think we're going to need 12, so I thought it made more sense to move the mini-camp up, get everybody here. We'll see how this week goes and see what we think we need at the end of the week."

Ah, right. That makes sense I guess. Thanks

I never understood this take. His practices are soft enough as they are so he goes less every year? 11 new coaching changes, a new OL and QB, more RB's, CB's, ST, etc. Why would you not take full advantage of every practice available given how limited they already are under the collective bargaining agreement?

Totally agree. I'd like them to take advantage of the allotted practice time to keep getting better. However, a lot of Kyle's system is mental. Where to be on a certain play, what angle you block a certain run, when to hand off a DLineman if you are blocking him etc... it kind of makes sense to cut practices short if everybody is *mentally* on assignment. You can't really do contacts in OTA's as far as I understand. You can't do tackling for example. So if you can't do tackling and shedding blocks, what good is it to continue practice if everybody knows their assignments mentally? But I get your point, is Kyle too soft on his team? Will this feed into the constant injuries year in and year out because his practices aren't physical enough? I don't know the answer to that. But we shall see this season for sure.

Over the years the CBA has cut practice times. Everyone wants less practice thinking they'll cut down on injures. I think the opposite has happened. There's a ton of studies on cleats vs grass and turf for injury but there's also studies that show GRF (ground reaction force) while wearing cleats. Simply it's much harder on the body to run in cleats than standard soft sole shoes. IMO these guys don't get enough on field running before the season starts. Which is leading to all the soft tissue injuries.

Every extra practice just running around the field in cleats would benefit any team IMO.

Agree on your point about conditioning. I'm hoping ShanaLynch has a good handle on the players conditioning and continues to develop that important workout warrior culture that NC pointed out a couple of months ago on his injury thread. A lot of the NFL is more like basketball nowadays anyway (with all the pass happy fast break offenses) it might not hurt as much now vs the past when was more of a run oriented power blocking game.

Personally I think if Kyle ever solves the injury problem like how Walsh's teams were typically injury free - Kyle would probably have won two Lombardi's with the 49ers already.😭😭😭

I agree with Mayo too, but keep in mind that this is a veteran team. Even Trey, he's already had one offseason cycle to get familiar with the playbook and the plays already. Kittle, Deebo, Aiyuk, Jauan have at least one year in this offense plus this years offseason, so it's not like 2017 where Kyle just got hired and nobody knew the playbook.
With that said, I'd love it if the 49ers practiced more -- but the kind of practice I'd like for them to do is more of the contact stuff you do in training camp. Actual blocking and tackling. But the NFL rules prohibit a lot of those now for medical reasons. I think a lot of players are doing stuff on their own too - for example Kittle's "Tight End University" and Von Millers "Pass Rush University" that - maybe - Kyle can see those translating beneficially to what he sees in OTC's, and him cancelling it because of that. We shall see.
