That is true for positions of strength, but not for positions where depth is needed.
Who was competing with Drake for 2nd DE spot last year ? Clelin Ferrell. Ferrell was better than Drake. Is it really that hard to get an upgrade from Ferrell ?
They ended up trading for two EDGE guys mid season just to plug that hole.
Who was competing with Cam Latu last year in terms of TE2 ? Dwelley ? Yet the guy is in danger of getting cut without logging a single snap.
Yes, there will be misses. But misses when you have limited draft capital and desperately need to some young, cheap guys when you're cap-strapped, really hurt. Like, really really hurt.
And some of these misses arent really "this guy isnt good enough to be a starter on this stacked team". Some of these are "we cannot even make this guy a third stringer because if he needs to get into a game we're effed".
