I rewatched 2021 tape on Drake before the draft while evaulating edge, and if he were coming out this year I think he goes 25-50.

Remember he came out early as well. Still younger then Foskey, Derrick Hall, Will McDonald, Keion White, Byron Young.

I'm really wondering what weight they want him at. He weighed in at 255 at the combine, and then 270 at his pro day. What was his playing weight last year? He looked big, but it's really interesting to see the note from his scouting report.

"He should have kept his weight up instead of trying to lose it. He's a good athlete regardless of weight and he's not big or strong enough right now." -- Scout for AFC team

My guess is 275-280 is where he should be. His functional strength needs to be on the right level. Not just weight lifting power, but you want a guy who has strength into technique and in a football move sense.

I"m excited for Drake. It's what both of you mentioned. Weight, technique, etc... I can't wait to see this guy just key on the QB with his GTFO metrics. If he was 270 and added muscle, if he's 280 - I'm betting he can easily set the edge on most downs unless doubled. If he's bigger than his rookie season *and* is stronger at the point and still explosive, top 10 or higher, I would think. Kocureck can develop his DLinemen - which I think on redraft go several rounds earlier. Samson Ebukam was a 4th rounder and on his 3rd contract just landed a 23+ million dollar deal. I"m betting on a redraft, Ebukam goes much higher - say first round?
This guy is probably the most critical/unknown player that our defense will depend on. If he can take that DE spot opposite of bosa and do well - our defense will be complete. It's our only glaring weakness or unknown.

this kid is SUPER talented and I have a lot of confidence in him. So I can't wait to see how he looks going into this season. He should get 10+ sacks this year because of the attention everyone else will demand.

maybe we will have two studs from USC tearing it up on our defense?! 😍🤘

II agree with what you're saying. Just watching him on TV last year he didn't look undersized. And it was a surprise to have him off the roster after week 9. Is more muscle all that's needed? I'm not sure what was going on but hopefully it's addressed because we need this guy for twice as long as he played last year. It really didn't look like muscle was the issue. He looked decently sized last year. I'm wondering if conditioning was part of it or some medical condition propped up.

Just maintaining that strength throughout the year. Sounds like he got burnt out. College kids play like half the snaps as NFL guys plus it's a full time job. Preparing like a pro is a real thing and I think he needs to go chill with Bosa lol. We got spoiled with Nick, dude is an animal.
Hopefully, he becomes the next Charles Haley.

Bosa was probably the most nfl ready rookie I've ever seen. It's one thing to have an awesome season and then it's another to dominate on a really good defense. His sack numbers weren't exactly great but he was ridiculously impactful and reliable.

i agree with you on what it most likely was. It's why sophomore years are usually huge jumps because players get their bodies right in the off season and get to study/practice after a year of playing. If drake does that, he should have a huge year with Bosa/Armstead/Gravedigger getting mass attention.

i think he can be a more athletic Ahmad Brooks!

IIRC, Matt Maiocco said he wore down due to a lack of conditioning for the pro game.

From what I saw of him last season, it was fairly easy for a decent OT to stand him up. That sounds like a lack of strength and technique. Whatever the case, he clearly did not have the year that was expected of him. Let's hope that experience has lit a fire under him.

Im not banking on it. Budgeting 350 snaps. 3 sacks, 15 pressures. Waiting for that signing we supposedly budgeted for. Good learning experience for Jackson.

....welp there goes Smith. Do we give the money back to McCaffrey now?
Drake spent the off-season in Santa Clara. We didn't sign, resign, or draft a starting caliber edge. We did that last year with Drake. I strongly feel he's gonna have a solid 8-10 sack season at 275/280. We have rotational guys to spell him. But everything I see points to him starting and having every opportunity to keep that job.
