Really hope Drake shows up big time this year and so do the rest of our guys.

Saw this earlier and it kind of shocked me not to see 49ers considered a top 5 pass rush unit. I didn't hear the show to know the criteria they used but considering we added Hargrave to a line with Bosa and Armstead…yeah I don't get it.

I'm sure they don't trust Drake or our depth but still crazy to me given our success with this coaching staff and Bosa doing what he's been doing.

John's gotta add that proven veteran opposite Bosa, would be my guess before they see this DL as #1.

That said, we'll see. Philly's pass rush is not the same historic unit from last year.

I'm looking forward to our OL playing Pittsburgh right out of the gate. Great test to see how far this unit has grown. And likewise for our new pass rush!

Yeah Pittsburgh will be a great test for both lines out of the gate. Hopefully we don't come in sloppy like last season and weather won't be a factor so it can be a proper evaluation.

For sure!

Not sure why but I tend to have little confidence in the first game of each year.

Probably because we come out looking like absolute trash almost every game 1 under Shanahan. Only year I remember not doing that was when we played Detroit, but they still almost came back from like a 4 touchdown deficit to nearly win at the end.

Would it be better to start the season like Erickson or Tomsula?

Of course not. I'm just pointing out the team hasn't looked like a good team any game 1 that I remember. We were smoking Detroit, but let them score 3 or 4 unanswered TD's in the 4'th quarter. Otherwise the team hasn't looked like they're out of the preseason on game 1 any year I can remember under Shanahan. The first week or two is usually pretty shaky, but we've mostly looked pretty bad year in and year out.

This is true, but that doesn't concern me. Hot starts haven't amounted to much in today's NFL.
If he gets decent playing time he should get 8 sacks if he's any good. If he gets minimal playing time he should still get 5.

Otherwise he's probably just a rotation guy.

He should start.

Week 1 2019 @Bucs W 31-17
Week 2 2019 @Cinci W 41-17

We won the first 8 games that season, won the conference and appeared in the SB.

That Bucs game was a very, very ugly offensive game with 250 yards of total offense. I'm not sure why you're using this as some kind of counterexample

It was 7-6 bucs at halftime. Defense had two pick sixes in the second half. So dynasty is correct.

Hot starts are great for putting pressure on others in the division and having a chance at the #1 seed but what you don't want is a hot start and then it falters. It's ideal to be playing your best ball down the stretch.

kyle has been good about getting the team better and in sync as the season goes on, going into the playoffs strong.

I'm telling you, our d line rotation is going to be phenomenal this year.
Bosa, Hargrave, Armstead, and Drake will be a killer starting line. Then Kinlaw is going to have a great season, Ferrell fits the scheme great. We have so many really solid players after that. We will stay fresh too.

with bosa, armstead, & hargrave playing with any mixture of backups, they'll be way better for it and effective with those guys. It's going to be insane. I can't freakin wait
Did he get any reps?

Drake was the player I was most excited to watch this preseason. Drake and Ferrell are the X-factors this season. If either one of them can be a consistent threat opposite Bosa, this defense is going to wreck shop.

I thought he should have had part of 3 sacks his first 3 games...but that was not the way it actually turned out....but he was close.

We should see "superbowl run" levels of pressure this year ...someone should end up looking better than they actually are...

The announcers on Sunday said the 49ers have never had a guy inside like Hargrave....i disagree, i dont even know if we have a tackle tandem on par with BY and Stubby, but we do have 3 out of 4 good to great players on the line. If drake ends up with 5 sacks, i would be really disappointed. IF anyone thinks Hargrave is better then peak BY or Peak Stubby...and they are right...we should set an NFL sack record this year.

I hope the narrative of this season is closer to "cool your jets my dudes.... Drake is good, but he is getting alot of help" Lets hope for double digit+ sacks.
