What's crazy is that our next 2 games against rams and giants both have really bad OL we might see a few more big games soon

Love his motor you saw the flashes last year with his play he was great when he had the chance.

Now he has bulked up he may end up with 10+sacks, especially with the much attention Hargrave and Bosa is getting. We should send a thank you note to USC for playing him out of position because he would've been a first-round pick if used properly

My old boss who is a USC grad and follows them religiously, was texting me yesterday about how bad their precious head coach Clayton was because he saw how good huff & Drake were yesterday
had 28 snaps
44% of D plays
DJ played well but all of his sacks happened when the QB was flushed out of the pocket (i think), it's not like he screamed off the edge and did a body dip and bend to get the sacks.... he is benefiting from playing along side 3 pro bowler so pump the breaks on the Drake Jackson hype train I want to see him get sacks coming off the edge before I pop a boner over him

I didn't want to be the first person to mention this but I agree they were mostly high motor, coverage sacks. Glad some 49er DL was able to clean it up and notch the sack, but in terms of whooping the OL in front of him and getting to the QB, that was not the case yesterday. Great for his confidence as he continues to hone his craft.

Lol well we only had like 12 plays in the first Half before that last drive the Steelers put it together. Lol

keep our guys fresh! I was impressed with Ferrell. He's a really good fit for our defense, set the edge well too.

Lol I said it after the game, but I didn't want to be overly explicit because people would whine and call me a hater. Drake's sacks yesterday were the same type of sacks he was getting last year. He still needs to win his 1-on-1 matchups to take the next step because low-quality sacks(ie scheme, coverage or cleanup) aren't sustainable in the long run. That said, I do think Drake can increase his production significantly by being the beneficiary of playing with Armstead, Bosa and Hargrave and cleaning up with effort and athleticism.

lol I've learned to save the objective "criticism" on a winning Sunday, for Monday. Yeah, he has the motor and athleticism to be the clean up guy when AA/Hargrave/Bosa makes the QB uncomfortable. What Drake did yesterday still requires talent since getting off his block and tracking down a mobile guy like Pickett isn't easy. As he plays more, I hope he puts it all together and becomes a player that can beat a OT in timely fashion. It'll be a process.

These aren't low-quality sacks. He did win the 1-on-1 matchups. Those sacks are solid. It's not like the QB just ran up to him. His speed is ridiculous for his size and caused Pickett a lot of trouble from moving anywhere in the pocket and beyond the LOS.

he did have back to back legit clean high impact hurries late in the game...

Not only are those effort sacks as you point out....but it also points to the fact he is staying on his feet. One of the few minor knocks on Bosa is the dude is on the ground quite a bit for an elite rusher. You could argue Bosa while balanced when he is rushing the passer, is not necessarily alway stable . Probably at least in part to design and technique choice. Any chaos you create on the blindside matters because normally you are on the back side of a pass play.

With Drake normally rushing into the face of the QB, staying on your feet is a bonus. That is likely at least partially coaching and by design. Most QBs roll/shift to the right, if Drake is on his feet he can help control the edge, and get his hands up to bat passes.

I think Drake's pair of clean pressures late in the game is actually worth more then a clean up sack....but what he is doing has merit.

So anyways...you guys are right....let's see it for what it is. What he did had merit, he is impacting the game in a positive way...but he was inconsistent in providing pressure quickly. So lets not get ahead of ourselves.

2 coverage 1 schemed.

LMAO. Good one!

Don't worry, we just need to trade for Brian Burns... and limit Jackson's snap count.

2 coverage 1 schemed.

Upon further review, his first sack was a coverage sack. His second was a good sack imo, although it took Pickett trying to run by him, and the third sack was well executed by he and AA.
