It's still noteworthy because they were still weighing the possibility of a reconstruction (which would've put him out for the entire 2023 season) and didn't know until the surgery actually happened. It actually happened and reconstruction wasn't needed.

Massive W today. Probably the biggest we will get all offseason barring an unforeseen trade/signing.

I think you both make fair points.

It was possible this would be a more involved surgery with a longer recovery time, but we lucked out and ended up going the less extensive route.

My expectations

Recap for week 1 gonna be like

Brock Purdy throws an interception, hits a defender between the eyes, throws a wild pass, and still manages to get the win as the San Francisco 49ers defeat the Baltimore Ravens, 28-24
it's a miracle on page 1000 thank you lawd

Best case scenario for 49ers!

Brock got surgery and it's anticipated only a six month recovery. This adds further ammunition to the line of thought we'll add a cheap vet and draft a rookie and let the vet and rookie battle it out for QB3 while we get Trey snaps this offseason and Brock rehabbed to get ready for the start of the season

We can keep a cheap QB room the next two seasons while building out the remainder of the roster

I'm with you Silky. I agree. You never see the following headlines:

"Surgeon Botches Operation, Patient's Arm Clatters to the Floor"
"Brock Purdy's Elbow Slips Into Time Warp During Long-Delayed Operation"
"Brock Purdy's Elbow Operation Unsuccesful, QB Traded for a Dozen Doughnuts"
"49ers Trade Purdy's Elbow to Seahawks for Pete Carroll's Gallstones"

I have seen recent, similar headlines from the U.S. Drought Monitor such as: "Drought Monitor Reports Portions of California No Longer in Drought"

Well, NO DUH. Really?

Nope. There were so many possibilities and it's already been postponed. Surgery meant the inflammation is down and Tommy John wasn't needed. We will have Brock most of the season :).

When the patient doesn't die, it's successful
page 1000 and we get the great news that our franchise QB1 will be back for the season. Awesome.
Hell yeah!!!

So, Purdy should start throwing again in 3 months? Let the games begin....

Look, I love Brock Purdy. I think he's great. I think he is already ready to go. I don't know what his limit is. We might've already seen it. He might only be able to get a little bit better, but I already like that boi more than Jimmy. But if he's not getting reps in the off-season consistently while Trey is, I think there's a question in a discussion to be had unless trey looks miserable. Did that discussion is not important but if he's looking pretty good, I think you go into the season with Trey.

It would be completely reckless to even consider any sort of competition between Trey and Brock in TC. Having Trey provides the time to let Purdy completely heal before doing anything that could complicate or delay his recovery. It also gives the team and Trey a chance to see what he can do, and if he shows up and proves himself, we have the best backup in the league as insurance. If he fails it would be easy to re-insert Brock to the starting lineup.

I agree on the first sentence, BP won't really be able to throw without restriction all offseason is my understanding in a best case

will be another QB all summer to work in camp
