I think they said when Trey fully develops he won't need alot of help. He was obviously going to need alot of help early on in his career. Alot of people said the team can carry him while he goes through the growing pains like every young/rookie QB. You think whoever the Panthers take at #1 is not going to struggled alot?

This was never about Trey being the best QB on the roster year 1. It was about him being the best longterm. But you have to let him play and deveiop. You can't get better by just holding a clipboard.

Agreed on all points. Ugliest throwing motion in the NFL.

Some 9er peeps just can't accept that TL can't live up to the predraft hype. it's just a religion at this point as they will believe in him no matter how bad he performs on the field, even after BCB comes back to win game after game for us...

Yeah they just WANT to believe. That's it. There is no evidence you can really point to. They messed up in the draft twice. Trey was drafted way too high and Brock Purdy way too low. It happens. Teams miss at QB. If you did that draft over Purdy goes a lot higher. Trey goes lower in his IMO. They were just picking on hype and potential. But there are a lot of practical problems there. Mechanics, reading the field, game experience just to name a few.
There is a bottom line to this

It is absolutely true, you can't expect a young QB to come in and play like a 5 year vet and to light it up. That is an incredibly rare thing to see. That should not be a knock on Trey.

So

When you get an actual rookie QB to come in and play like a 5 year vet and not just light it up.....but to ACTUALLY LEAD the entire NFL in passer rating..... you have that incredibly rare thing.

Purdy is just different. Simple as that.

Since it looks like he will be back to throwing by training camp and off his 6 month recovery by the second week of the preseason.... If we see the team preparing Trey to start the season we can expect the 49ers like what the see and want Trey to start. I would not start freaking out though when we find out Brock is taking first team snaps as he is coming off his throwing restrictions. That does not mean Trey sucks, it just means they realize Brock is legit and has really rare talent.

Brock Purdy is the best QB on this team. He was of all 3 this year.

NO argument on who was the best QB we had last year.. but it is what it is.. Baby Face will get every chance he gets to bet the man because of the trade...

and IF it doesn't work out and Mac Jones starts winning at New England, I'm sure Shanny and THE SHANANIGANS will start the HE WANTED MAC JONES TO BEING WAY crap..

Sad to say, this could be Lance's JUDGMENT SEASON..

@river: By 9er peeps, you mean the organization? Cause they are the ones who drafted him, not the people on this board

@SD: Well yeah, everyone should "want" to believe in the guy that their favorite team made the biggest trade in franchise history for. As fans, are we supposed to root for him to fail? You are correct on one thing, there isn't enough evidence that you can point to to make a definitive judgement on Trey either way.

I can't wait for Trey to prove all of you guys wrong. I'll both be here to let all of you know about it and eat crow if he's a big a bust as some of you already decided that he is.

6 months from March 10th is September 8th. With that timeline, I see Trey starting the season. Trey would have to really stink it up this summer to make them rush Brock back for week 1.

49ers won those games not one player.

And he played a huge part in it. Josh Johnson proved just how good Purdy was.

Lol. He did that last year.

Huh? He was healthy all offseason and was able to practice and stay in football shape. Just because he wasn't practicing with the 1's doesn't mean he was just sitting around doing nothing.

Bingo. You ultimately want a QB that doesn't need pro-bowlers everywhere. People also didn't expect him to come in and be an all-pro MVP candidate out the gate.

the thought was the team can elevate/help him early in his career. He doesn't have to be Mahomes day 1 for them to win games….it was always about projection and what he could be though…that required development and playing games. People twisted the reality of the conversations to fit their narratives because they didn't like the prospect or the process on how we got him.
