Looking back, when we picked him with our last pick, I was already out with family doing our things. If i remember correctly, I looked up my phone just to see who we picked up the last couple of rounds and I see a QB.. Brock Purdy. My first thought .. "ahh..camp body, practice player, will eventually get cut just like any low round picks, so nothing to see here" with Lance, Sudfeldt and Jimmy (although we know he will be gone at some point)ahead of him. Didn't even bother reading this thread, didn't even bother look up his college games and didn't even bother watch his preseason games. I was too busy and like I said "camp body, practice player". When we chose him over Sudfeldt, I was like 'huh.. ok, rookie beating Sudfelt for the number 3, no big deal and he's just there to hold the clip board. Fast forward to the Miami game, I was at the game and when JG got hurt, it was a gut punch and you can feel it from our nervous fans. At that point I thought our season is hanging in the balance especially with Lance out for a season and Jimmy possibly be gone for awhile. This is not a mop up, blow out game that you usually insert a rookie to get some playing time. This is also the first game I get to see Purdy play let alone with "live bullets". I was like "ok, just manage the game, kid" but I won't be surprised if he will have the "deer in the headlights" look since this will be his first game and coming in cold. Like I said, I've never seen him play and I was shocked and pleasantly surprised! Young man was very poised, know where to go with his throws and have a great ball skills. I honestly thought that the offense is more explosive with him at the helm. From then on I have to go check out some of his college tapes and ate up all about young Brock. But how could I missed this? Maybe I was just too focused on Jimmy G moving on and Lance as the unquestioned number 1. At this point, I'm still tempering my excitement with what I witnessed. Give him a few more games under his belt and let's see what opposing defense once they have a few game films on him. We all know what happened since and it was apparent from the get go, he belongs. Yes, he has playmakers galore around him, a killer coaching staff and he's surrounded by great teammates that believe in him. But he still have to execute the plays and he's done it again and again. Even though I'm late, reading through the first couple of dozens of this thread made me smile and chuckle a few times. He was the story of the year, Mr Irrelevant no more.
