Played better in 2017? That's debatable.
Not in my opinion.

And if you actually took the time to read through this thread, you would see that no one is claiming otherwise. Brock is QB1 unless other things prevent that from happening (injury taking too long, Trey playing exceptional and too well to be benched, etc.)
Lol NY clearly tried to go against me when I mention Brock as QB1.

The point is, this isn't a situation where we have two qbs fighting for just the backup job. Yes Brock at this point is the leader in the locker room there. If one of Sam or Lance is having an amazing camp and takes command of all of it, they can very well be the WK1 starter…Brock's injury makes it even more murky.
this isn't a QB room with a defined starter who's a pro-bowler making a bunch of cash. Where the hierarchy and roles are well laid out.
If Lance is the WK1 starter for whatever reason and plays well…he will continue to be the starter. No different than when Brock became the starter and played well. Also imo the reverse is true. If Brock is the starter and doesn't play well. He's not gonna remain the starter regardless. That's my opinion on it.

So in your opinion you think Shanahan would make that call based off of just one start? What if it's raining?

You could argue Jimmy played better considering the s**tty team he had around him.
One had CMC, Deebo, Aiyuk, Kittle, Jennings, Mitchell around him.
The other Carlos Hyde, rookie Brieda, Goodwin, Aldrick Robinson, rookie Bourne, rookie Kittle.
And let´s not talk about the defenses.
Jimmy is what he is at this point but he changed a lot of things when he started in 2017.
I think Purdy was the best Niners QB quite clearly this season and I think he´s perfect for Kyle with the way he processes the game and his scrambling ability. But Jimmy in 2017 elevated the whole team. That Jaguars game seriously.

So if he plays well you are benching him the next game to start Brock?

Why is Grant Cohn the only hack who reports that Purdy is the absolute starter and Lance/Darnold is 2,3 and it's all completely set in stone. Literally no other reporters have this 100% absolute take. Seems kinda strange. Shanahan has never dealt in absolutes with anything, no reason to.

Grrr krizay hates context when it's not fitting his narrative. If Lance plays well I'm sure you will be fair and objective
