You're 100% correct that no one can say definitively. I just take in outside context, as well as my own thoughts/perceptions, when I say he doesn't. I really don't know though.
I've always heard that it doesn't take long to know what a qb is capable of, especially when you're with them everyday on a team. It's why I think Lance is more of a really good game manager in his prime. I could be wrong though.
I think this is extremely true and well said. KS and JL they know as much football as any two men on the planet. They have been around TL since April 2021. So about 2 full years now. I think they know a tremendous deal about who he is / what he can or can't do. We may not as fans, we hardly have seen him play, but they know in the bldg.
I think they like Trey and believe he could be good with time....the problem is they hit a home run on their 7th rounder and their roster is loaded so can and should they go through growing pains with Trey NOW that they have Brock. I understand the thinking and its no insult to anyone involved. If anything the blessing i Brock having an injury so they get another fresh look with Lance and maybe he gets a few games in to see where he is at.
Correct. What Brock did blew any "potential" talk out of the water. A dollar today is worth more than a dollar tomorrow. Hence why if Brock wasn't injured there wouldn't even be a discussion.
However, if Trey plays great (or Sam plays great), the same "a dollar today is worth more than a dollar tomorrow" will apply, and that QB will be the starter. Mark it down. IF one of those two get to play and if plays great, they're going to hold on to the job, at least for a while. And in that case it's pretty clear the other of the two will be the third QB.

I agree with you for the most part, I discussed this with another poster before. I think if one of them plays great, they'll still put Brock in when he's healthy, but he'll have a very short leash. He will have to ball to keep the job. If he doesn't, they'll pull him in favor of whoever is playing well.
i say that because you don't want a fiasco where someone starts hot, the starts sucking/not playing too well, and then you're benching players etc. that has an impact on the locker room.
but, you may be right - If the person is playing like Brock did last season, you may be right. It can be a tricky situation.

I really don't think so. NFL coaches, even the aggressive ones, are too conservative to mess with something that's working.

It would be a good problem to have, for sure. I say it all the time, even though some refuse to acknowledge it, I want Lance to prove me wrong. I'd love for him to become what some envision. I root for the San Francisco 49ers first, whoever can help the team reach the mountain top the best, let them play.
i just personally think we stumbled upon a great player and just love everything about Purdy.

the Trey thing is different because it's sort of the first
qb the teams drafted in my life (where I was old enough to watch and follow football) that I didn't think was a good pick. So for me it isn't Purdy vs Lance. It's Purdy, someone I'm very high on after watching him and studying his film through out college/pros. Then it's Lance, where I've watched his film and all that, followed all his practice reports etc and I don't like what I see. The draft pick confused me, but Kyle/Lynch know more than I do, so I look at it is as giving it the benefit of the doubt.
I do my best to remain optimistic. about him, and when he is starting/playing, I absolutely root for him. But if I was to sit on here and say all this great stuff about his film or my opinion, I'd just be lying to myself and everyone else.
if Trey ends up being awesome, I'd be super thrilled and I'd go back and look at what I thought and reevaluate my evaluation of him to try and find what I missed. I don't view it as anything other than that. I just genuinely don't see many positives to his game that I think translate to the pros or reasons why I should be very optimistic with him in regards to him developing.
It's not an him vs him. I just make joking posts or obnoxious posts sometimes but that's more just to give guys a hard time on here for fun. I do that to my buds in person.

I guess Kyle and John have "picked sides"
The people that like Purdy just like good football. They want the best QB to play. If someone comes along and plays better we will then pick his side. Only Trey fans have picked a side and the problems stem from them being bitter about our own players success

All I have ever really tried to say about Trey is that I dont have any idea if he has the it factor, is going to be good, or is going to be a bust....and no one else (especially WZ posters) has any idea either.
I think kinda everyone stumbles into a great qb. Lol because it's all just an educated guess. The colts were seriously considering leaf over manning. Lol
i had my hopes up with jimmy big time after 2017, but I'm ready to get crushed again'
the Trey thing is different because it's sort of the first
qb the teams drafted in my life (where I was old enough to watch and follow football) that I didn't think was a good pick.
I do that to my buds in person.
as for Lance i haven't see that much to firmly stand on a side.. none of these QBs show that to me lol

What does he need to clean up and how much better does he need to be to be the 49ers QB?
I think he played at a level worthy of a FQB and his stats and accomplishments reflect that.

I guess Kyle and John have "picked sides"
The people that like Purdy just like good football. They want the best QB to play. If someone comes along and plays better we will then pick his side. Only Trey fans have picked a side and the problems stem from them being bitter about our own players success
still dangling that carrot, i see

You're absolutely right, he isn't, but there is so much about him that I like - I think he has all the intangibles.
for example, in highschool and college - he took programs to new heights that they've been and he was the key reason. They haven't been the same before or since. They relied on his arm and leadership. Carried programs and was able to get a lot of valuable experience (even heart breaking experience). He almost always had the lessor roster when going up against good high schools and colleges, and at worst made it a competitive game. He was able to go through those growing pains of what it takes to do that and he also made everyone around him better. He's done that at every level - even in his limited nfl experience.
he never played for a powerhouse at any level and elevated everyone around him. There is a lot to be said about that. Speaks volumes about his leadership, prep, play, everything.
just the fact a 7th round rookie came in and did what he did is mind boggling, literally unheard of. Lol
Will it continue to happen? Idk, but i sure as hell would like to find out. If I had to pick a pony out of our stable, that's an easy choice for me. I understand others will disagree etc and that's okay, there is nothing wrong with that. We are all on the same team here as fans.
