QB Brock Purdy Thread

I also don't think the defense has a screen coverage either. You just have defenders who recognize the screen earlier and disrupt the play.

Anyway, I might be wrong.

I agree with you on both counts. I dont think either of these exists. A broken screen play is a quick throwaway at the receivers feet or a sack/qb scramble (worse outcome in most cases) for the QB. Since linemen are running downfield and they are looking to block in front rather in the back many of them don't have capacity to evaluate if the screen play is blown up and stop on a dime.

Take a look at the Dallas playoff game last year and how they shut down his short and intermediate throws. Purdy still needs to hit receivers outside the numbers and deep to keep NFL defenses honest. That is still a big question mark. Small QBs like Brees and Wilson can do it and he needs to do it too to succeed in this league.

I remember that the 9ers won that game.
I remember that he did damn good in the playoffs for a rookie.

I don't think KS is even a fan of the deep pass anymore - perhaps for ball control reasons.

Lol at anyone who thinks Purdy didn't play a good game against Dallas. That was a slug fest typical playoff game against two heavyweights, aka super bowl contenders.

Dallas had a top two defense per DVOA and all kinds of other stats, not only that - but they have a very fast and athletic defense that does a great job matching up with us.

obviously Purdy wasn't perfect but he was incredible for a rookie. Only rookie who's never thrown an interception in his first playoff run and the most pass attempts for any QB ever to begin playoff games to throw as many passes as he did and not throw a pick.

couple that with the fact that he didn't even have 1 turnover worthy plan in the playoffs…. Yet some are worried about int in practice. Give me a break. Lol

Cowboys defense played very well and matchup with us very well. Kudos to them but brock did enough to beat them.

Got ourselves a Darnold should start guy incoming. Don't pay him much mind. Probably Faithfuls alternate account.

My memory sucks, so grain of salt and all that, but my recollection was Purdy playing a really clean game. Obviously we didn't put up a ton of points, but I was impressed by his decision making and taking what the defense was giving, not forcing or pushing things.

The other thing to remember is that Dallas D was a turnover making machine. They were doing their damndest to get Purdy to make a mistake, and he looked like a savvy vet out there.

Yeah, parsons was terrorizing, he was under a ton of pressure. Check this out.

Max Duggan was just cut - another 7th rounder who played in the big 12 with 47 games, incase anyone wants to say that Brock looked how he did cause he started a lot in college. Lol it's amazing to me how quick some are to write off what Brock did and act like it wasn't historically amazing.

Brock started at a place that taught him pro style concepts. That's a huge difference than TCU.

Example of good experience with good coaching and its effect.

Agree 💯%, and how many rookie QB's beat Tom Brady? he's the only one. 8 games is a small sample size but it's a good enough size to indicate a lot of great things in store for Brock. One of the biggest factors in allowing Kyle to let Trey go was Brock. Dang did Kyle and this fan base get lucky with a potential franchise QB like Brock.

This chart is missing 3 of his incompletions and 5 passes altogether.

Did you make my point? Purdy couldn't make throws over 20 yards in that game. Most of his completions were under 10 yards.

The defense did enough and Dak made obvious mistakes. They intercepted Dak twice. Without those 2 INTs, the Cowboys win on 49ers turf.

Yes, Purdy played INT-free but it was nothing like a savvy vet's. Half of his completions in that Cowboys game was under 5 yards. I'm sorry but that kind of performance will not win us the Super Bowl.
