I think there's more to the story but time will tell. Trey needs time, he's still raw while Darnold has 55 games. Mostly terrible games but it's experience. I get the move but I also think Trey has a bigger upside that Sam. Remember how terrible Darnold was for 3 years? He was terrible. He even got massive playing time and still was bad.

My point is the double standards though. I am not pushing this to troll or demean anyone but I've pointed out Sam's less than stellar preseason. Even in his thread o highlighted some plays where he missed open guys, two of which where sacks. Nobody said a word. Trey his first game has similar sacks and it was chaos for the week. Trey throws a near pick that results in a TD and again it's all week. Sam throws a ball right into a defender on a extremely stupid play and he gets a pass.

I truly don't understand why a proven bust gets so much respect but Trey got trashed for his every move.

What if it's clear from what they've seen that he'll never reach the level they had hoped he'd attain? If you believe he just doesn't have it and never will, should you keep pressing the issue or cut your losses?

Just because he's raw doesn't mean that he'll ever progress beyond that. This trade is saying that Kyle and Lynch don't believe he'll ever be worth anything in the NFL. Sometimes you just misevaluate a player. It happens.

Or what if you just find someone you feel to be a better fit after showing it on the field? I believe most of this had to do with Purdy, but it is telling that they traded him within the conference. A fourth rounder is hard to turn down, but it is ballsy to trade with a rival.

When you get outplayed by a 7th round rookie who has literally no nfl experience, its a wake up call

to be fair I feel like they both had little to no NFL experience and I felt Brock had more experience since he played so much in College.

Side note: it goes both ways with Kyle, hes the one that saw beathard and chose him over other qbs, same guy that put Brock as qb 3 behind Trey and Jimmy. The tape shows hes not been very good at looking for qbs if hes been the main one looking aside from what we have with Brock atm whos still only 7 games in his career. Things can drastically change in the NFL. Only reason we found out what Brock can do was because he was forced into the situation with the injuries.

I think there's a difference between evaluating QBs and hoping they can develop certain traits versus what happens once you get them into your building. Lance has been in the building long enough for them to have a pretty good read on what he's capable of, they saw all of it and traded him to Dallas anyways. If dude starts more than a dozen total games in his career I'll be surprised.

Beathard wasn't the 4ers first pick but an insurance pick since hoyer was our starter.

QB is the hardest position to find, all coaches fail at it

Nope. He's already proven he's a bust that played worse than Trey for years. I don't admire that like some hypocritically do here. 55 games is not enough to judge a QB but 4 games is plenty...

but is Kyle a hypocrite?

I would have rather traded him to Buffalo for a 5th or 6th and have him buried behind Allen. That way he will never have the chance to embarrass you (speaking to John and Kyle). Actually I'd rather we didn't trade him at all but here we are.

i think Kyle's surprise at the pick value combined with the zero f**ks given by trading Trey to an annual playoff rival hints at how Kyle really thinks about Trey's overall skill level. he's not afraid one bit.

I get that, but even if there's a 5% chance this comes back and bites you in the a** you take the easier choice. Which would have been Pitt or Buffalo

I understand. We're in day 2 of the aftermath of the trade so it's hard to avoid this topic anywhere

4th rounder has far more value than a 6th + a 5% chance

I know you're gonna say we hit on stars in the intermediate rounds. Kittle in 5th, Warner in 3rd, Purdy in 7th, but you can't count on that. We've also missed on a lot of players in those rounds. Teams give away a 4th sometimes just to spice up a trade. I don't see much of a difference between a 4th or 5th. Maybe 6th

there's definitely more value in trade-up scenarios
