Looking back at it now, with the benefit of many pundits pointing out this and that, he was amazing. It wasn't just the results, those were obvious. What was amazing was how he did it. A key play was when Ray-Ray and Kittle started in motion at the same time, Purdy stopped his count to avoid a penalty, put them in the correct place, restarted his count, and threw a TD pass. That stuff you can't teach. Opponents are not going to "figure him out" after a few more games. Those things are high-level plays that will have opponents scratching their heads.

Brocky will get figured out by D coordinators just like they did with Tom Brady... he special like Tom

Awesome post, DJ. NFL will always have a place for ball out on time, accurate, see the field well, and a good understanding pre and post snap. Really no defense for that. D can only take so much away. We may have real fireworks this season. The O talent, is incredible. And if BP is seeing it well, throwing to the open man, that's all he needs to be doing here.

to me, it's never a good thing regarding a qb when he isn't voted in as a.captain. It's the most important position in sports and the only player that touches the ball every play (besides center).

I don't think a team has a good chance of winning much if the qb isn't viewed as one of the leaders of the team. I'm not taking a shot at Lance here, that is for any team where their qb isn't voted in as cap.

Connor Cook. I knew that dude wasn't going to make it once his own teammates neglected to make him captain.

Wasn't here the guy that replaced Kirk cousins at michigan state? Or was it the other way around?

Purdy get named as a Captain, yet?

Soon ™️

Make him an Admiral.

Have captains been announced? He will def get it. People respect the hell out of him

I think B-Rocks gets to be a captain if he beats Pittsburgh...

I'd imagine they assign captains before the games start

49ers vote for captains

Was a big deal last year bc Trey Lance was NOT a captain after being declared starting QB

Purdy 100% gets the votes this year

Totally agree. It was something that honestly concerned me quite a bit last year with Lance. Teammates tried to downplay it but let's be honest, it was a big deal. Much more than was made of it.

Purdy is a natural born leader. Zero chance he isn't captain, IMO.

Yeah, i thought it was concerning. It just reinforces my opinion that he wasn't a field general and too passive, a game manager. It's one thing to be liked on the field and it's another to respected - it's ideal to be both in the eyes of your teammates. I think everyone liked Lance but few respected his ability as the qb, in my opinion. That's how I perceived everything - no one was even concerned that he is gone.

Purdy is out there yelling at people if they mess up. Lmao I find it hilarious cause it's funny to picture how he would be if he was yelling at you but I bet it's intense. Hahaha

There's no way Trey would have been a captain only playing 2 games. He proved nothing on the field with us.

I agree Purdy is more respected in terms of his play, and he's more experienced as a leader, but not sure that will be enough to be captain either.

I hope he is.. but we will see.

I'll be concerned the same way I was with Lance, if Brock isn't voted a leader.

I think you earn your captain a lot in the off season, how you carry yourself, practice, lead others, run the offense, guide others etc.it's a balance between being one of the guys and also being a guy people look up to for advice and direction.

I always love the "well the league has tape on him now" take.

Like, dude, Brock and Shanahan have tape on you too. And guess what — Shanahan is better than whatever DC you got rolling out of bed this morning. So good luck!

Purdy haters on the WZ will take care of that.

The Brock haters are probably Seattle fans with QB envy. You will never satisfy those fans, by definition.

see Mina Kimes today on Eisen.

Even if that were true — the team ain't going away. So what are we even talking about? Kittle, Aiyuk, CMC, Deebo — they will all be in SF for several more years.

Zero of them played as well as they did until Purdy came around…IN HIS ROOKIE YEAR

Thats the crazy thing (and sneaky compliment) - they talk about Purdy like he is a 7 year vet. They almost never mention that he was a rookie when they critique him. But every other rookie QB gets a pass.

I mean look at the Pittsburgh kid. Awful year - but understandable given his tenure. They have decent weapons and an A+ RB. Purdy was light years ahead of him.

Purdy proved he can play well inside and outside the structure of Kyle's offense last season. I also believe he could fare well in many systems, not just Kyle's.

With that in mind, no one should slight him for his weapons and Kyle's play calling when he's making plays on his own.

Jimmy was the one who struggled to make enough plays outside of structure... which is why I don't think they will be viewed similarly.

I truly believe if Aiyuk caught that Mahomesian throw Purdy made in the wildcard game the entire off-season narrative around him would change.

The fact that Purdy even has it in his bag to pull that off shows you he can play outside of structure. If he didn't - it wouldn't have happened.

I love it, every time I hear hate like this it makes me giddy, especially after it became clear the injury didn't affect his arm strength or mentality in training camp. But everyone still keeps saying this "Oh he's going going to REGRESS this year."

Really? So you're telling me a ROOKIE who got a handful of reps in training camp last year as the 3rd stringer who no one expected to play, but was forced into action mid-season without a full understanding of Kyle's system is now going to be WORSE in his 2nd year after he's had a full training camp as a starter, gained a full understanding of the system, an offense tailored to his strengths, much more in-depth guidance from Kyle and Griese on what to improve on from watching him last year, a healthy and highly motivated Deebo, etc. etc.

But he's going to be worse than he was a 3rd string rookie. Sure okay lol. We'll see what you have to say in a few weeks.

I think it was nick wright (huge niner hater & objectively one of the ugliest people ive ever seen) who said the league now has the next gen stats on purdy, and its all green in the middle & red on the outside so defenses will expose him now.

if he is not exposed, they will just pivot to "well look at his weapons and with kyle calling the plays of course he is successful"
