The NFL has grown up so much from the 80s, every defense has darn near seen everything by this point. I think we are past the days of lets draw something up we have never done before in the dirt. It is the price we pay for the high end product we see week in and week out in the NFL.
I was going to post something the other day about Trey and Shanny and how little franchises can actually work with player in todays NFL. Teams only get a few weeks during the offseason to work with players, and they only get 4 hours a day and only 2 of those hours can be at team/coach direction. So you are lucky if you get 1 hour coach directed film study and one hour of hands on coaching per day. Once you hit the end of TC and preseason you only get 24 hours in a 3 day period. That is what the collective bargaining agreement has brought to "mentoring" young players.
Back in Montana/Walsh days....Joe could be in the building 12 hours a day if he wanted to be, nothing could kept Walsh from working 60 hours a week with Joe in the offseason if that was needed.
The story of Montana crashing on the couch in Bill Walsh's office before the rest of the team arrived for the first day of Training Camp could not happen in todays NFL with out the 49ers loosing draft picks as a punishment.
