lol at that power rankings
Purdy behind Jordan Love, Justin Fields and Kenny Pickett is funny of course based on what we saw so far in their respective careers. But whatever I can understand people wanting to wait for a whole season of Brock Purdy.
Lamar Jackson and Justin Herbert above Joe Burrow is super weird quite frankly.
If you have a PO game who do you want as your QB? Lamar, Herbert or Burrow? The answer seems pretty obvious at this point right?
Who Mahomes would fear the most?

He has that Steve Young/Montana quality for sure.
Even in the practice videos (there was a video on YouTube of Purdy warming up before the Steeler game) and it's like watching Stephen Curry throwing three pointers - every one of Purdy's passes hit the WR's on the money right at chest level, and very catchable balls, and they weren't high arching softballs either, they were pretty flat in terms of trajectory and so ACCURATE!
This is a gem of a QB, and I hope Kyle will invest whatever he needs to invest in to protect this guy for the rest of his career.

I'm glad I got to watch him bring the Niners into a Powerhouse in the 80's.
Bill Walsh explained why he always had a deep shot scripted into his first 15 plays for the threat not the actual yardage. The threat of going deep effects how a defense is called. Even if it fails the threat of another one exists. He did this with Joe Montana. Joe's arm is not as good as Purdy's. Walsh's primary tenet of his offense was pressure. Keep the ball moving forward and stressing every defender. A steady diet of 50 yard bombs will not do that. Yes it will stress the CB,FS and maybe the SS..but it lets the DL and LB off the hook...in fact it helps both of them.
Plus there is 3rd down pressure. You can't miss to many bombs or you loose the pressure of 3rd and short. We all know what 3rd and long does to a DL. That is just a bad spot to be in with regularity. It does not stress a defense, it helps them immensely.
It is easy to argue there is a balance to having a deep threat and still having an acceptable chance of completion.
I think Shanny 2.0 and Purdy do this well, Purdy is ready and eager to attack the back of the defense. His bread and butter so far has been chunk plays. Shanny puts defenders in a constant state of pull and tug. Come forward for a run? Come forward and it was play action? Cross the field for a screen? 30 yarder by Purdy? They do a good job of moving the defense around and not letting them back up with comfort or come down hill with comfort.
One of Walsh's greatest moves was drafting Jerry Rice, and Aiyuk kind of reminds me of Rice. Great hands, great blocking, great route running. I'm hoping we can keep Aiyuk. Kyle hasn't unleased the WideBack offensive weapon on defenses, yet, not when he's up 20 points in the first half. Purdy with his accuracy, throwing to Deebo and Aiyuk simply isn't fair to a lot of defenses, for sure. It's sorta like the Jerry and John show, and you have a much more talented Roger Craig (CMC) running the ball. Once you have that credible run threat, you won't be able to stop Purdy. If everyone stays healthy on offense, I can see the '94 offense all over again dominate this season.

I don't care where Brock is ranked as long as they win. The fact is he's played great so far. Not great in the big yardage sense or making great plays. He's just been steady and avoided making big mistakes. That's what works in Kyle's system. His plays don't require his QB to make 40 yard throws into double coverage.
When these QB rankings come out, it's important to look at what criteria the person is using. Is it just stats? QB rating? Physical attributes? Wins? Commercials? Looks? My oint is everyone sees things differently and where a person rans the Niners QB is really irrelevant. All that matters is that the team keeps winning.

The only thing I worry about with Purdy is their ability to protect him. If it was me, I would go all in on upgrading the OL next offseason. Trying to build as formidable of a wall to give him the maximum time to operate as possible. It's what the Patriots did for Brady, the Saints did for Brees, the Cowboys did for Romo and the Packers did for Rodgers.
Why not go all in on the line this season? I've said it before but they have the cap space, and I wouldn't mind one bit if they traded a 1st round pick for a good OT. Doesn't have to be great, but their history with 1st round picks, coupled with the notion that it will likely be #32 tells me it would be a good trade. I want Brock to be clean and upright. So tired of losing our QB to injury.
Agree on an OLineman trade, if they can get a CMC deal going. 49ers got a round 1, pick 1, running back for pennies on the dollar. I'm hoping (for example) the Chargers tank, and fire their coach, and we get Rashaun Slater for something like the CMC deal. 2nd round, 3rd round, and a 5th round (or something like that).

No one is trading a young promising OL like that. Especially a team like the Chargers who have a franchise QB.

To me football is a team game, and the QB affects BOTH offense and defense, and Purdy's record - so far - is being UNBEATEN. I think that's the most important stat for a QB, is those wins and losses. These power rankings are fun way to have a debate and deal with what-ifs and could-have-beens, but it's wins and losses that get you into the playoffs and have a chance at the #6 🏆.
49ers have backloaded a lot of core players salaries (40+ million in freed up cap space), because of Purdy's cap hit (less than a million for a franchise QB ) and I think the 49er brain trust, knows they'll have something here that nobody else has for the duration of Purdy's rookie contract. My hope is that they don't skimp on the offensive line and get a possible trade deal going to upgrade that line - not necessarily for this year, but for next year and beyond.

CMC shouldn't have been traded, yet he was. Point is we don't know what idiot bottom feeder front offices will do, but they usually do the stupidest things. That's why they are bottom feeders.

There's an abundance of quality RBs though... and an extreme scarcity of quality offensive lineman. I think that's why you won't see many teams trade away starting caliber OL.
I hope I'm wrong, but I think it rarely happens if at all.

I will never subscribe to this theory, and NFL GMs clearly dont either. If they did, Tim Tebow wouldnt have been out of a job after his team had a .636 winning percentage plus a playoff win as a starter.

The Chargers have Superbowl aspirations every season (regardless of how it turns out every year). They wont be trading anyone, even with a slow start.
