I think if this game tells us anything, it is that we over estimate Deebo...not Purdy.
Deebo looked like an extra player, not a core part of an offense. He looked like a dude you add once you have everything else in place.
It is one game...so can't let it tell too much of a story....but this offense looks crisper last year with no Deebo then it does this year with no BA.
The best thing the 49ers could do for Purdy is go get him another super crisp rout runner that is where he is suppose to be when he is suppose to be there and spread the darn field out.
So much tight formations this game... it ruins space in the passing game. I know why they are doing it with a run heavy game plan, they want the run blocking rules advantages skill players get from tight formations, but dang man....you got a QB with 10 games under his belt, give him the larger passing windows that come from spreading the field out.
Great post and spot on.
So true. The giants lined up in a phone booth like half the game. How many did times did the giants stack 7 players literally beween the tackles. Thought we'd have some hot concentpts from the coaching staff but didn't look like it,
That is the advantage the 49ers get with outside zone runs....you can have the skill guys bock down the chase traffic with out flags if they are in tight.
The problem is when we want to keep formation balance and pass out of tight formations...your WRs are now playing basketball..with defenders bodying them...and in the case of Deebo, the dudes catch radius looked microscopically small this game.
It is one game...the 49ers won with ease....so can't say too much negative about it, but in the 1st half I think Deebo had 3 missed catches hit him in at least one hand, 2 were probably catchable. Deebo did not look crisp.
It is a stark contrast to CMC catching nearly everything that went his way, and Deebo short arming a few catches. You got two guys that do similar things in the passing game and CMC honestly looks to be the more dependable of the two.
I love Deebo, hope we keep Deebo forever the dude is a game changer no doubt, but I hope the 49ers zero in on a tier A+ rout runner to add to this offense incase they loose BA. It would help the 49ers keep the chains moving. Again Deebo is great, but I don't think he is an elite down in and down out guy to move the chains. It is probably why he is such a gadget guy, you want the ball in his hands and you can't always do it with a conventional passing attack.
From the perspective of Purdy....you want your young QB to have that security blanket, you want a guy who is where he is suppose to be when he is suppose to be there. They need another elite rout runner.
