I REALLY need someone to help explain the total QBR to me. Last night, Purdy completed 67.6%, averaged 8.4, had 2 TDs, 310 yards and a rating of 111.3. Total QBR, however, was 58.3. First game VS Pittsburgh he completed 65.5%, averaged 7.6, had 2 TDs, and a rating the exact same of 111.3, but a total QBR of 94.3. How does that make sense?
I could be wrong, but I think opponents factor in this stat

But a Dak Prescott against the same team completed 13 of 24 for 143 yards, 6.0 YPA with 0 TD's but had finished with a higher rating than Brock with a 70.5 total QBR.

Nonsense. The whole point of QBR is to look BEYOND mere numbers and look at CONTEXT. Brock made some great plays, he also made some bad ones which didn't hurt us because guys like Kittle broke up interceptions. Stop being so much of a homer that your trust in an advanced stat depends EXCLUSIVELY on how much it praises the players you like. That same stat had Brock at number 1 in the NFL in week 1, and cumulatively he held that rank after week 2 as well.

Not sure if anyone's posted this yet, and it's 30 min long so you might not have the time… but you could at least listen to the conclusion and start to get an idea of why this might be a lower graded game even though he was successful in the context of regular statistics and the team won.

That said, QBR is going to have flaws just like any other stat.

Good video, Joe...thanks for posting it..

I agree with a lot of stuff in it

For those that missed it, Fitzy got Brock in touch with the best QB to ever lose to Montana in a Super Bowl.

He did throw three, but also three picks and they lost 38-31. But when you lose after scoring 31, interceptions or no, that's mostly on the defense.

If you're talking about XIX the final score was 38-16.

Look I know folks think we have him on this rookie deal and all the good stuff that comes with that... BUT, if we win the Super Bowl, and Brock would most likely have a big reason to do with that, we are not going into the 2024 season with a Super Bowl winning QB (who might get named MVP) on a rookie deal. Brock's agent wouldn't let him do it, and Kyle/John knows that is not how the league works.

Hell the Pats did it with Tom Brady after his Super Bowl win, even though they had him on a rookie deal.

He can't renegotiate his deal until after the 2024 season, FYI. Thems the rules.
He's been the best QB in the NFL since he started last year and he has been the best QB his year based on first 3 games. Film is proof and so are results of games. No other offense is averaging 30+ points a game (DAL def/ST accounted for most of TDs against giants week 1).

He is 11-0. I don't count a game where he tore his UCL on the first drive as a loss, though if you hate him or hate the 49ers I can understand why you would (that loss is Josh Johnson who also quit on the team after the most minor concussion ever).

It is insane how he hasn't had a bad game which even supposedly great QBs in the league like Allen and Herbert have a regular basis (besides getting their ass handed to them in playoffs). He has so few mistakes (barely any) and consistently makes difficult intermediate to long throws. Sorry no 65+ hail mary bombs which frankly are rare as f**k in his league.

Hopefully they show some respect on his name after he beats overweight slow as f**k Dak in a couple weeks (a supposed top 10 QB LMFAO). I'm sure there will be excuses about them missing that b***hass CB that was bragging how this defense was going to be all time great.
Can someone do me a favor and try to load up footballoutsiders on their browser? I keep getting that "This site can't be reached" page. I want to know if its just me or is the entire site down.

Thank you.

I wanted to check out their DVOA stats.
I think it's somewhat amusing when Kyle talks about Brock during his many media sessions. Even with the sound turned down, you can always tell when Kyle talks about Brock Purdy. Have you noticed? He smiles. It's a coy smile. He does his best not to do it, but he can't help himself. He smiles all the time when he's talking about Purdy.

I don't think I've ever witnessed a smile like that for any other player he discusses.

You're welcome. I'd imagine it will be back soon (unfortunately ;) )

He should be happy. Dude hit the lottery with the player.

That's not to take away from the fact that Kyle and CO selected him and made the right move keeping him and cutting Sudfeld.

Wikipedia says it shut down start of September.

Thanks. The wiki page lead me to a site that took over the tracking of the DVOA stat.
