Same play, same throw, same result.
49ers fans when refering to other QB's. Awesome throw. That was a dime. That QB is great.
49ers fans when refering to 49ers QB. Slightly under thrown. WR had to slow down for it. Our QB is innaccurate.
Not one person has said he's inaccurate. Just not quite as accurate as last year (regarding ball placement, not completion percentage). He has room to improve while still playing great, not sure why this has so many people upset.
I'm not upset. I have just observed over the years that 49ers fans hold 49ers QB's to a much higher standard than other QB's around the league. I was simply poking fun at it.
I agree with that. But when you have two HOF QB's, one of which is top 2 of all time, expectations are high. For those that say that Purdy is overrated, has a weak arm, is a system QB - all of that is nonsensical hate. But ball placement being a bit off and Purdy appearing a little shaky (at the start of games) is worth discussing in my opinion. Again, if this is as good as he ever gets, and can consistently play at this level - we still have a franchise QB. I just think he can get better, so there is more to see that we haven't seen yet.
I would counter that with most of the fans on this site probably never watched Montana on a week to week basis including myself as I was born in May of 1985. So it is safe to say that their perspective of what 49ers HOF QB looked like week in and week out is skewed based on only watching a couple of old games and a bunch of highlight videos.
Now, I find nothing wrong with constructive criticism. Does Purdy have room to improve? Absolutely. But we also shouldn't have unrealistic expectations for a QB who has been performing better than any QB we've had since Garcia. Those expectations include believing that he should hit every receiver in stride, in between the numbers everytime. We should look at the film on such passes in question and ask ourselves why he threw it slightly behind or slightly low. Because what I have seen is a lot of those passes that folks like to criticize look like he was either protecting the ball or protecting his receiver.
