This experience has made me realize that there are a crap ton of good football players out there that are buried on the depth chart, or not on a roster at all. There are probably some in the streets that are better than some starters right now, but will never get the chance. The roster size is limited, the draft process is not perfect at all. We fall in love with the big schools and big names coming out of college, but more times than not they do not transition into the NFL well. That's why more than ever these 3rd-7th round picks are (or will probably be) coveted more moving forward.

I think it's a sort of perfect storm scenario. Purdy didn't have the measurables which caused his biggest slide. But his "IT" factor couldn't be measured, then pairing him with Kyle really brings out his best. I think there are a lot of teams on which he wouldn't be as successful due to coaching alone. I'd bet there are other QBs who could have had a ton more success in the league had they just been paired with the right coach.

Give this guy a strong ground game (Montana/Young had Craig/Watters) and he'll never have a bad game. Give him two elite offensive tackles, and he'll dominate like Kurt did in the 2000's. CMC is Brock's Marshall Faulk. Next draft, I'd love for Kyle to find a young 220 lb Saquon Barkley/CMC in the draft to groom behind CMC. Maybe that guy is already on the team in Mason and Elijah.
Exciting times to be a 49er fan.
Yeah, the fact that he was pick 262 and came right in like he's been doing this his whole life, is quite remarkable. It helps that he was drafted into a great situation but it still takes a special player to be able to take advantage of it all. We've had numerous QBs here during kyles stretch that couldn't put it together, the closest was jimmy and he obviously never completely took advantage of all of it cause of his limitations as a QB.
I've been kinda waiting for him to have a rough game but idk if he will have an entire game be rough, he adapts and adjusts so quickly - it's incredible. He's had slow starts, rough first drives (like against the giants) etc but once he gets a few drives under him - he figures it out and adjusts because he isn't a one trick pony. He doesn't overly rely on one aspect of his game to be productive like so many QBs do.
it's so much fun to be able to sit back and watch this kid and think about what we are potentially looking at for the next 10-15 years….

For whatever reason, it's downplayed in the nfl how important a quality organization with quality coaching is for a players development and potential. There are SO MANY players who careers are ruined because they went to a disaster of a situation and didn't really have a chance to succeed. Look at Geno smith, he's finally at a quality organization with good coaching and he's showing he belongs in the league - he looked awful with the jets. I think the same story could happen for someone like darnold (although idk about franchise qb but a quality player).
brady was super lucky to go to New England when he did. Montana was really lucky to be paired here with Walsh. Look at Bree's when he got to NO with Payton. Etc etc.
where a player goes and who they play for is so critical to them reaching their potential or being destroyed, it's no different than working a regular job. If you're at a crap company with crappy management - its awful and depressing, sucks the soul out of you. If you're at a good company and respect your manager, they're putting you in positions to succeed, you are happy and very productive.
We are lucky to have landed Brock but he's also just as lucky to have been selected by us. He couldn't ask for a better situation to be developed in. It's partially why I always took issue with Lance, he couldn't ask for a better situation and couldn't capitalize on it (outside of the injuries which aren't his fault). I'd be willing to bet that if darnold played, we would see the best version of him yet. I love Brock, can't wait to continue watching him each week.

Brock's running back during his freshman year in college was a 6th round pick and scored 3 TDs and carried for 120+ yards vs. the Packers last night.

I think he was a third round pick for the bears, no?

You're correct. I don't know why I was thinking 6th.

I love this about him. He has been like that from the beginning. You don't hear the word "adapt" as an ability when it comes to QB talk very often or if it all. QB's usually grow from game to game but to adjust like that on the fly is a rare trait. The dude is balls to the wall all in on being the best he can be. Nothing seems to rattle him. Maybe he is unshakeable?
He did overly use his escapability last season. The thing is, we have seen very little of that this season. He is willing to stay in the pocket and give his receivers to the very last second to get open on the play design. His pocket movement looks great this year. Especially his conscious effort to move up into the pocket and give himself a throwing lane. He is not drifting back like he had a tendency to do last season.
Something is just different about him. Some call it the "IT" factor. I would refer to it as being strong willed. He knows where he wants to go and he knows what it takes to get there. We're all just along for the ride.

It is coming.....
We will get a rough Purdy game.....
It is in Purdy's DNA
The 49ers have a good defense, and Purdy can recover from a bad series....odds are the defense will cover for him.
Purdy tho by nature is a risk taker, and does not really settle all that often on "easy" throws when better throws exist.
Sooner or later Purdy will push the ball and be wrong, it happens to EVERY QB.
Joe Montana had 7 games with 3 or more interceptions, Brady had 9, Drew Brees had 18, Peyton Manning had 22, heck...Dan Marino had 24.
It happens...it is part of playing football
We will be fine, Purdy will be fine...
We are 10,000 times better off with a risk taker like Purdy who will throw that ball with anticipation betting his WR will be where he is suppose to be when he is suppose to be there then anyone of the past QBs we have had that do not throw the ball unless his target is wide ass open if at all.

Last season we did see him try to escape from
the pocket early often, to the same side usually, but I think that he did that because he was thrown to the fire out of no where, you know? He didn't really have a chance to properly prep for the job with any advanced notice. He did an amazing job too. So far this year he has looked much improved with his pocket presence and how he manages his time and space in the pocket - which is really impressive considering he was rehabbing until training camp (and still for a lot of training camp).
i think he has the IT factor - you can see that he clearly understands the game on a granular level and all the aspects of what everyone is doing, including Kyle with his play calling. He has the confidence to not get shook either, very steady and calm… unless he scores a touchdown. Hahaha
i think we struck gold with him. I question if he will have "bad" games anytime soon because of the roster around him. Only way I can see him having a bad game is if he turns the ball over - defenses have tried just about everything, including record blitzing, and he hasn't done that yet.
i think we got the ideal kind of guy where football is life to him (outside of his faith), and when you obsess and love the game on that level - his preparation is always incredible and I think that'll prevent him from having an "awful" game. He will probably have a game where he isn't top tier but I don't think he will have a "bad" game unless we are super injured and he is trying to make something out of nothing.
