Now that was many moons ago but Brock had 21 attempts with only one miss. I wish I could remember what feat. that was.

Alex Smith was 18/19 with 3 TDs against the Cardinals on October 29th, 2012. It was actually his last full start for the team as he'd get concussed against the Rams the next week and lose his job to Kap.

Here's the game you're thinking of.
Terrific pass/catch.

He got hurt the next week and then ultimately benched.

Yup. Then we lost the SB.

That was the game where Randy Moss did this:

I think thay was Alex's final full game as a niner. Kap took over after that

I remember the game but this was the record I was looking for.

"In the NFL record book, the record for highest completion percentage in a game requires a player to throw at least 20 passes. So if Smith had completed 19 of 20 passes he would own the record, but 18 of 19 passes doesn't merit a mention."

It still feels weird that Randy Moss was a 49er at one point.

Still was an awesome decoy in his geezer years.

The difference between Alex smiths cards performance and Brock's is that Alex was ultra conservative. Brock does an unbelievable job of riding that line between aggressive and responsible. It's why we get so many big plays but also no turnovers.

Alex would've won it I fully believe. Obviously I can't prove that but I believe it with all my heart. That conversation is for another day though as Brock deserves his credit and no need to derail Brocks damn near perfect game.

Crazy thing is... Alex last TD to Crabtree was the pass Kaepernick completely failed to hit. Just saying...

The guy was like 1-21 for his career at that point when the opposing team scored 21 or more… which every team we played in the playoffs cleared. There's no chance. We probably don't win the division that season if he stays the starter. He was awful against every decent defense he faced… except for that Cards game we're talking about.

Anyways back to today where we don't have an anchor at the position.
