Funny how the Webzone's best poster, the one who predicted Brock would turn into a pumpkin and wanted Trey to have the "chance to fail", rarely posts in this thread anymore.

But let's be honest here, if he knew how to read defenses better he would've had more than a 17 games played. I enjoy his videos, but I disagree with some of his conclusions.

I don't understand this line of thinking. Ability to execute = / = level of knowledge.

I promise you JTO is a better QB than Kyle Shanahan, Mike McDaniel, Sean McVay, etc. Those are the greatest designers in the game.

Well......

Clearly at least to some degree some guys that don't dominate physically have been successful by grit and grind. They either learn more or out effort their natural ability.

There has been many coaches/mentors that got to play in the upper tier of college ball and the pros simply by over compensating for their lack of physical ability......and......that has been a successful path to coaching.

On the flip side, there has been uber gifted people that have failed at coaching or mentoring. Being able to do it, does not mean you know it well enough to teach it.

Just because JTO's career did not look like Dan Marino does not mean he does not understand things, especially compared to his general audience. Just as Shanny and the rest probably have a bigger picture in mind then JTO recognizes doing his weekly break downs.

I was going to post something similar a couple days ago but...

He definitely doesn't appear to be posting about team success like he was in defending a certain ex player.

Sigh.......

On the flip side..... Purdy is doing Purdy stuff missing an absolutely fundamental part of developing a young passer......protecting the young passer......

Outside of absolutely elite young QBs like Manning that could beat the blitz very early in his career....it is rare to have a young QB thrive without protection.

He is now 27/34 for 538 yards, 4 TD's, 0 INT's with a 123.3 passer rating for the season when throwing 10+ yards.

If I have to hear Butt Fumble call him a point guard one more time, I may just shoot a hole in my TV.

I mean some point guards are hall of fame legends. Steve Young once said that he finally understood quarterbacking when he realized his job was to get the ball out of his hands and into the hands of his playmakers. So, it's not necessarily an insult. Depends on the context .

Of course. But the subtext is that he's calling Purdy a game manager. Does anyone liken Mahomes to a point guard? I mean he's a maestro dealing the ball with no look throws, left hand tosses, etc. Nope, because it's not a compliment.

That was exactly my point.

Nobody would question Shanny, McD, or MvVay's X's and O's knowledge based on the fact that they couldn't successfully execute on an NFL field. The same is true with JTO or other expert level analysts.

Questioning whether JTO's analysis is correct on a given play because he isn't in the building and isn't quite sure what's being taught or what the reads are, is legitimate and is something he routinely acknowledges. Questioning it because he wasn't a good player at the NFL level is not.

just saw this comment on the first page lol

Happens all the time. Dudes go all-in on a QB, s**t on the team, and then disappear when their guy gets canned. We lost a lot of "die hard fans" in the aftermath of the Kap v. Alex Smith war.

Many Jimmy G fans dipped as well.

That was posted before yesterday's game, but you're probably correct regardless.

Again, who gives a s**t lol.

That guy knew he had to post it quickly, because pretty soon no one will be able to get away with saying that crap against Brock. And objectively, it's a funny ass thing to post. Just inaccurate. So I get why he had to get it out early.

It's a funny thing because people don't realize you can root for all these guys. I mean I did. I've supported every dude under center and on the roster. I even want Darnold to be great too, because he may have to play one day. Until coaches prove incompetent, I assume the guy whose playing QB gives this team the best chance to win. Good enough for me. I think the problem is fans root for a QB like they root for a team.

Subjectively. I don't see the humor regardless of QB.

Serious question...

Purdy is playing so good I feel like the team needs to give him some sort of bonus.

I know he cant get a new contract yet but is there anything the team can do to slip him a milli along the way?

Idk exactly how it works but I know there is a separate bonus pool of money set aside for players who out play their contract. Check out this article for more info.

Interesting.

TY for the share.

I realize its not my money but damn. Bro needs some coin for what he is doing.

Well he will start getting $60M a year or so in 3 seasons. Just needs to stay healthy. Lol

Haha right?

Just for his sake I hope he gets a little money along the way because yes he can get injured but more so because he saved John and Kyle from surefire destruction over the Trey Lance debacle.

Most coaches/GMs would be in serious trouble after that....Brock saved them.

Break him off a stack.

Really hope he pulls a Brady and takes under market value.

Absolutely.

We all know the kind of journalist who resorts to trash like that.

QB can certainly be a polarizing issue and obviously a hot button topic for fans. It's just part of football fan culture. You can see in this thread that it isn't enough to have a QB playing very well. People also want other fans/media to feel the same way they do. It's important for lots of fans to be able to argue their guy is the best, or one of the best, nearly independent of what the team might be doing.

I think that was an underlying theme in the offseason QB wars here. That, and also just the general concept that people want to be right and have a hard time admitting they're wrong.

True, but at the end of the day, there's less gap to bridge when you're arguing whether a particular throw was good or bad. Not whether a player should be kicked to the curb or given the starting job. These arguments in this thread have been small because we're only arguing the degrees at how well Brock is playing. That first bad game or stretch of games, and I guarantee people will come out of the woodwork and real s**t-slinging will begin.
