QB Brock Purdy Thread

Secondly, it's not a coincidence that the 5-13 team that Belichick had in his first year and 2 games with Drew Bledsoe, became an 11-3 and Super Bowl team with Tom Brady. One was a legit Pro Bowl QB....the other is one of the greatest to ever do it - a true elite player. Brady had the likes of Reche Caldwell and was going to AFC Title games in the middle of that decade. He carried a lot of those guys.

Brady didn't carry crap his first few years in the league. He was in full on game manager mode, making the smart throws but that team was built on the basis of a dominant defense with Belichick scheming his ass off, never giving up more than 17 points in the playoffs. It took Belichick a couple of years but by 2001, that defense was legit as hell and would only get better over the next few years.

Patriots fans wanted Brady to be replaced by Bledsoe in the playoffs that first year and even after winning a SB, there were a lot of them still calling for Bledsoe. It wasn't really until 2005 where Brady started to take over games and began looking like the Tom Brady people would see for the rest of his career. If Purdy continues to progress then its reasonable to expect that at some point he'll be able at least somewhat make up for any drop offs in talent levels on offense with the hope being that Shanalynch and Co continue making sound investments in the OL and defense long term.

He could have a career ending injury any game and that would be it, no big contract. So no, he doesn't "make almost a million a year." Why I keep saying the organization needs to hook this kid up somehow. They owe him huge. Kyle and John should be paying for everything for him, because he saved their careers.

Furlow, John and Kyle can't be paying for jack. That would be a salary cap violation. We would forfeit draft picks.

Sincerely, Paraag

Like I said, cash in a briefcase will do just fine. Lol

Personally, one reason so called elite QB's elevate the team around him is the Offensive line. If you have the touch, accuracy, and timing of a Joe or Steve. They will decimate defenses if you give them *time in the pocket.* Even Deion in his prime couldn't cover Jerry when Joe had time to throw to him, when Deion played for Atlanta. Give a very good WR like an Aiyuk or a Ronnie Bell 4 seconds against Deion in his prime, and they will beat him more times than not with a QB like Joe or Steve who have great accuracy, touch, and timing. Now with that passing success - defenses can't key on the run so much, so now the draws, screens, and run plays have more success because defenses are keying on the QB's passing. Then it follows, if the offense is successful in getting lots of time of possession, now the defensive stats are padded because the opposing team can't generate any offensive stats. So that's *how* in my book a QB elevates the team around him. So far so good in my view, with regards to Brock. He has the timing, touch, and accuracy to dominate time of possession and at the same time eleveate a lot of his teammates around him. 🏹🏹🏹 for sure with Brock so far.

Great QB's can also make the offensive line better substantially. Whether it's getting rid of the ball quickly or maneuvering within the pocket. A great example are the Colts before and then with Peyton Manning. They went from something like 60 sacks prior, and then mid 20's with a rookie PM.

A good OLine can also elevate a QBs Play. It's a team game. 1982, Montana loses a lot of his star players and he goes 3-6 and looks very average. Lets have Journeyman Trent Dilfer be the QB now, and let him have a great OLine, and Defense and lets see if he *looks elite?* Rich Gannon and Nick Foles are two other examples where you give them solid supporting cast and they look good to elite level QB's. Point being you wishing to see Purdy win without talent around him before calling him elite is a tough argument to make. At best, that argument is a wash. I think you have to watch him play the game and see the kind of throws he makes and then also compare what he's done in the game to other QB's historically - and you have a much more solid basis for deciding eliteness and generational talent, in my opinion.

Kyle could've said: 'It's my system! He runs it, but it's my system! Now if you want to crown him...Crown him!' -- and storm off.

There is probably a breakeven point that combines security/location/privacy that made his current arrangement more attractive then what it would cost to go solo.

He's also engaged to be married soon, so saving money for that as well as not moving only to presumably move again soon afterwards is probably wise. Just because you have more income than before doesn't mean you have to immediately spend it. In fact, if you don't have to spend it one probably shouldn't.
