But from what I read, he never questionned the fact that Purdy was the starter.
His problem was the lack of physical talent that lowered the ceiling of Purdy. Is this a wild take?
I don't think so. At least less that some people that thought that Shanahan could fix Darnold and do a Steve Young remake.

Yeah, I just think the difference between NY and myself when it comes to evaluating QBs is he places a lot of a players potential on their physical skill set, while I don't. Brocks skill set is more than enough and the rest is mental/work ethic.

i just think it's important for a qb to process the game and have the right instincts. Something I don't think Lance has but only time will tell.

As I watch JTO breakdowns, i think of Walsh smiling on Brock's anticipation throws

When I think of Purdy, I generally think that he's Good/Great in all the major categories, but JTO and Jonnydel's breakdowns help me realize that in anticipation... Brock Purdy is ELITE.

So MANY plays where Brock is already in his windup when the receiver is entering his break. And not just short passes, but intermediate/deep throws.

It's one of the things that you can just point to in the film. There's no lies there. Indisputable.

The thing is that it's hard to deny that guys like Mahomes, Josh Allen or Herbert just to name a few have everything you want for the QB position.
Ultimately we can talk about mental process, accuracy, timing, poise all we want, when someone has that and the big arm and the athletiscm it's basically game over.
Like seriously I'm not a big Mahomes fan but jeesus sometimes when you think that in order to win the Superbowl you have to beat this dude + Andy Reid, yeah I'm like give me Mahomes 2.0 with Kyle.
But ultimately you're never gonna find this player. So yeah I agree with you, give me a Joe Burrow. Not the most athletic, not a big arm but he does everything well and his mental process is top notch.
I don't think NY disagrees with this. He probably thinks that it would be better to also have the canon and the super mobility to beat the Mahomes and Allen of this world and soon probably Caleb Williams.
I'm a little bit more romantic. So I like to think that for every John Elway or Dan Marino there's a Joe Montana.

I doubt there's anything prophetic about it, he just REALLY hated Lance. Couldn't be happier it came true, though.

Brady and the Bucs slapped Mahomes hard in the big game. Pat went 60 mins with 0 TDs. Brady was cooking all game. Brady was one of those no one wants this guy, lacks tools, type players, he's the GOAT. Pat Mahomes is an incredible player, but you can do it with all dif stripes, from Kurt Warner, to Brady, to Mahomes / Elway, Young, Montana, there is no one mold you have to fit into, that's a ton of dif play styles, leadership is a big part of it, as is seeing the field well and quickly.

That's true, and just another reason why teams are looking for guys with cannon, 99 Throwing Power arms. It just feels harder to find a guy who can throw with anticipation.

A lot of QBs are hesitant to trust their guys to be in the spot the play expects them to be in, partially because when they are not in sync that can lead to weird moments like the two passes last night where Brock threw to empty space. Worse, such miscommunication can lead to INTs, so I feel that a lot of QBs want to wait as long as possible to make sure their guy isn't gonna screw them. But you just can't play that way even if it goes against every instinct to trust but verify - you just have to trust. Guys with elite top level arm strength can wait a bit longer because they can muscle it in, so having this trust is even more important to a QB who doesn't have that top level arm. It's just very hard to do from a psychological standpoint, which is why you just don't see it to this degree of efficiency all that often.
