If Purdy was actually honest he'd admit he didn't expect this either.

He saw it coming, it's like TB first thing he said to Kraft is he introduced himself and said he's the best decision this org has ever made. Confidence and leadership go hand in hand. He has the mamba mentality.

In his interviews just after being picked by the 49ers, he basically said he just wanted a shot. Not only did he get a shot, but he got on a team that had a great history and tons of talent already before he came. A lot of the Iowa State Fans that watched him throughout college have been happily surprised that he's doing so well in the NFL. Not many of them thought he'd be a starting caliber player - the way he is now. Many of them thought he'd be something like a Chad Pennington, forever backup.

Didn't brock say that his goal was to be a starter eventually, even if it was 5-10 years from now? I think I saw him say that was his goal when he was leading up to the draft.

the first five games of this year have been insane by the offense.

A lot of the Eagles fans are jealous of Purdy and the media press he's getting after he Shellacked the Cowboys. A lot of them still think he's just another guy. They are circling December 8 as the day they bring Purdy down.

We can't cut him. If we need to keep 3 QBs, so be it. He's too valuable as a quality cheap backup with future trade value.

Here's my first post in this thread. Just before cut downs in 2022.

Here's mine:

Championship!

I thought he was going to be such a great player for us that I never once opened up his thread. Lol

im not gonna lie, when I saw we selected him - I thought it was a wasted pick. I said to myself "why a QB? A guy this late is most likely not gonna make the team, especially since we just paid a guy $2M guaranteed. Should of nabbed a player that we could of developed and/or used on special teams"

LOL boy was I wrong. Glad to be too. I didn't actually look into him or anything, I just assumed that based on the last pick in the draft. Thank baby infant toddler Jesus that I'm not the GM.

Credit to you for being one of the peoples that can quickly change their opinion based on new information!

Agree, he probably said that. I don't remember much of the early interviews, but I do know he was pretty confident that once he got a shot, he'd be Purdy good.

The Mr. Irrelevant video where Jesse Sapapulu was talking about standards and Jesse as an 11th round pick won 4 super bowls, and that Purdy can too, man Purdy was just eating that up and absorbing it with such intensity. Loved seeing that again (I believe the video was reposted a couple of pages back).

In a sense, Brock wanted to prove to everyone that he can play consistently at a high level especially after the surgery, and the vets willing to up their game to help him. And in return, Brock wants to play at the highest level to help these vets win the SB they so coveted.

This team seemed really focused this year. More than any previous year. It's going to be amazing

I don't mind the fast start at all, my main concern is that they peak too soon too fast. But I think with a lot of veteran leadership, that should be a very low risk. ShanaLynch still haven't used Jaiyer, Luter, and a lot of the rookies yet. Even Ilm Manning is still on the practice squad, ready to be called up if needed. On top of that, they added Randy Gregory, who will take a couple of games to get up to speed. So I think the 49ers still have a ton of room for growth and improvement.

Brock on being able to even get better...

Going through progressions and being on time and things like that, the numbers would suggest that you've greatly improved in some of those areas. Did you feel that and if so, how are you kind of seeing things quicker or maybe even seeing them slower in some way?
"Yeah, I think honestly just the second year in and with this playbook just for how familiar I am with the terminology, the concepts, how we tie things together I feel like just the experience sort of helped me to be able to just play. [Head coach] Kyle [Shanahan] calls a great game and stuff, and so for me, I obviously trust in that. And they help me break it down obviously throughout the week, so I know what I'm looking at and I'm prepared for different situations and stuff, so I've got great coaching, they allow me to just go out and play come Sunday. I guess my second year into the system, I feel like I'm getting a little bit more comfortable with it. Still areas to grow."

If they hurt Purdy again, I'm going to blow up their stadium. Lol I'll be so sad

I'm pretty sure all of our roster including Kyle has that game circled in.

You see how focused and intense our guys were for the cowboy game?? They're going to be at least twice that when it comes to the eagles, they are pissed last year that we didn't get a fair shot at playing them - have a lot to prove that they got lucky.

you know Brock wants this one too. Deebo has been open about wanting to whoop that ass.

it'll be glorious when we spank them on their field - that'll be the game we're we go 13-0 and Brock essentially secured the MVP.

Do we think it's about peaking too soon or about becoming complacent with previous success.

Chris Foerster has an interesting take on this. He says basically as long as the 49er players keep working on improving, and (as you said above) don't get complacent. There is no issue of peaking too early.

Fans sometimes will look at a team that's playing well like you guys obviously are and wonder, 'Man, is this team peaking too soon?' Does that exist? Is that something that's even discussed ever by coaches or anything about it?
"No, I don't. I don't think of it like that. I mean, because what [head coach] Kyle [Shanahan] does such a great job of, in my opinion, is it's always about football. It's always about the X's and the O's and the execution of the fundamentals and the techniques and getting better. So, this big picture thing, this thing of peaking, not peaking, it's really we're just out there playing every week. Everybody has things they can improve on. Everybody has things they can work on. We study the tape from the week before, we study our opponent tape. And there's always challenges that each team presents, some greater than others. And some individuals have greater challenges than others. And so that's kind of what keeps you on an even keel. That's what Kyle keeps it about. And it's, I wouldn't say a business-like approach, but it really is, we just have to take care of our business, working on getting better and then working on what we need to do against this team to beat this team. And if that means we do great for six straight weeks of doing that, that's great. Seven straight. I don't think anybody's looking back, obviously there's been a lot of good ball going on over the last year or so, but heck, it can come to a screeching halt at any time if you don't take care of business and do the things you're supposed to do. That's one of the great things I think too, I give [general manager] John [Lynch] and Kyle credit for this is just that the type of guys we bring in, they like football and they like getting better at football. They're here for the right reasons. And yes, they're going to get paid and yes, they want to be the best at what they do, and yes, they want to have all the endorsements and everything else that goes on, but man, these guys love ball and that's what it is. When you have a guy like [LB] Fred Warner who literally is never satisfied and never feels he's good enough and he's one of your team leaders playing at a high level, it's really hard for anybody else to feel like they can be content. And so that thing of peaking too early, possibly being complacent would be the thing that would happen. You'd be like, 'Wow, we got this.' And there's no such thing. You just keep working and whether you play the same, a little worse, a little better, you just keep working."

Exactly. I think he's still has places to improve on. The long ball for example. He's hitting them almost perfectly, but Kyle doesn't focus his offense on the long ball, but YAC and the short passing game. Not that I'd like Purdy to be the second coming of the Mad Bomber, but I think those choice routes and option route combinations, where the WR and the QB read the defense - together - and adjust their routs is a big place where they can get better. I saw Purdy throw one or two passes to where there was no receiver within 10 yards (I was afraid of a grounding the ball penalty), meaning the QB and Receiver weren't on the same page of reading the defense on that option route.
