QB Brock Purdy Thread

-------------------
When the session was over, the time to cram began. Running backs coach Bobby Turner stayed on the field with McCaffrey, outlining positional concepts. Meanwhile, quarterbacks coach Brian Griese thought that a young player in his position room — the backup to Jimmy Garoppolo, who was the 49ers' starting QB at the time — might be useful in McCaffrey's crash course.
The 49ers didn't practice on Saturday, but by then the star running back and a relatively anonymous 22-year-old rookie stood together on the otherwise empty field at the team facility, walking through Shanahan's entire play script for the next day's game.

These days, that rookie isn't so anonymous anymore. He's the top-rated quarterback in the NFL — Brock Purdy.

"To be honest, I wasn't 100 percent focused on who this guy even was," McCaffrey said, recalling his first interaction with Purdy on that Saturday. "This guy could've been anyone. I was just so dialed in on trying to learn the plays."

Sounds like a good read lol.

these guys seem like such cool guys to kick it with. Nick is a blast, I bet. My name is also nick - so he wins but he also listens and watches a lot of the same stuff I do.

I'm so happy for this kid. I've always loved the underdog anyways.

Same, there is something super satisfying to seeing someone succeed when no one expected/thought they would. His story is damn near magical, now if he can top it off with a Super Bowl win this year - holy cow!

i also love that the QB of our team is just such a genuine and good guy. Very likely and a great role model. I feel like that he's our guy. It'll suck when we have to pay him (team cap wise) but I'll be super happy for him and his family. Well deserved and he's overcome what most never ever have.

I root for a*****es personally, lol.
A star-studded 49ers' huddle, which includes boisterous tight end George Kittle, didn't faze Purdy when he first took over.

"George is talking when he's trying to call the play," McCaffrey said, before launching into an imitation of Purdy. "'George, shut the f— up!'

"Everyone started dying. I just remember Trent Williams laughing, too, when he did it. To George's credit, right away he said, 'Yup, got it, sorry,' and he locked back in. Because Brock doesn't talk a lot, so when he does, you listen. It was such a great moment. It solidified Brock into the locker room, for sure."

Said Kittle: "I smiled and laughed. I was happy he was taking control of the huddle."

Eh there is a fine line between an a*****e and a douchebag. I feel like Brady and belichick can be a*****es but you understand where it's coming from and why. Then you have guys like cam Newton and he's just a selfish, self indulged douche (IMO).

every great player needs to be able to be an a*****e when the time comes but it needs to be coming from the right place

would it be fair to say, BP is playing extremely well, in an elite situation

It's not an untrue statement, but why the need to qualify it?

It would be like me saying that almost every year Patrick Mahomes has played, he played extremely well in an elite situation. Or Steve Young played extremely well in an elite situation. No one ever qualifies those guys' situation, so why the need to do that with Brock? To me, it just perpetuates the narrative that Brock's play has been an product of the system and players around him while other guys elevate the system and players around them with their play. So how about, Brock is playing extremely well, period?

That's exactly what I said. I'm glad you agree and get that.

As to "standards-point" Golden brought up, that's something that takes years to develop. If you knew our history with top DL/OL's you'd understand that. Similar concept to secondary.

The standard for these 3 positions has clearly dropped over the years or there would be zero need to defend such subpar play.

And FTR, we are talking about Brock. He's resurrected that standard.

5GR was talking about QB standards in a Qb thread, and you needed to insert your predictable axe to grind about the oline after a game the QB and offense pummeled the third ranked defense in the league while the oline gave up pressures on half the drop backs. So please excuse me if your axe to grind is not only tiresome, but also proved to be something this offense can overcome against good teams.

My axe to grind should also be yours...if you're concerned about actually winning a Superbowl. Next time I'll ask him to repost in the other two threads.

I don't have an axe to grind because I don't see a single position group as indicative of a team's overall success. We have one of the best squads in the league and we'll be competing for a championship. We may win, or we may not, but it'll be determined by the entire team, not the oline. You just can't seem to see, or refuse to see, the forest for the trees.

It's much better than having a stinky ass place. No shame here in lighting candles around the house.

For real, I light 20 candles every time I curl up to a nice romance novel in the bubble bath.
