Lol.

Abercrombie champing at the bit.

I like Men's Wearhouse cuz then he can do the 'I guarantee it' line

Brock looks like someone who manages a Men's Wearhouse.

That is one play. That play is NOT indicative of even what Brock normally does. Brock has gotten to first in the league in completed air yards almost entirely IN STRUCTURE, via deep ins, deep outs, and deep crossing routes—all schemed and all within structure. He makes about one or two of those risky throws per game. The overwhelming majority of his production comes within the typical evolution of the play. And even that play in hindsight was not outside of structure. It was just preternatural anticipation and accuracy. THE PLAY ITSELF does not exclude that throw. I mean jesus christ. The route is ENTIRELY VALID as an option for the QB in and of itself. The reason Kyle was surprised he threw it was because of the COVERAGE. The coverage would have forced a perfect pass for that to work. But different coverages with THE EXACT SAME PLAY CALL that route would have been wide open and the clear and obvious correct choice.

I mean how is this so difficult to understand?

Thats when Brock started calling his own plays in the huddle Varsity Blues style.

Careful, someone is going to believe you're serious.

Definitely not calling his own plays. But our receivers can't just take plays off and run lazy routes. You don't see much of that from BA and is probably why he has naturally become Brock's favorite target. Coverage dictates where the ball goes and no route is a clearing route. A checkdown is a missed opportunity to Brock according to what Kyle said.

There are absolutely clearing routes. And Deebo runs them lazily constantly. Watch some of JT's breakdowns (QB School on YouTube). It's maddening. Offense would be so much better if he ran every route with 100% effort.

Yeah, weird take. Eric Davis (9ers ex DB) talks about ghost and clearing routes all the time. As a DB you learn to recognize them quickly and a savvy veteran can come off them and make a play.

I think what YAC is trying to note here is that even if it's a clearing or ghost route, with Brock, you need to be aware you can't run that lazy because Brock might hit you. The Aiyuk TD is a good example of that. That was a design for a primary check down. And the other routes were designed to help open it up, hence why it was so wide open.

If anything, we just got insight into what Kyle doesn't want there which is the opposite of what some are implying here.
man now i see our fans getting more dense as we get better to spite the coach..

The Aiyuk play isn't a check down play. The defense determines what where you would usually go. it's been 7 years now and you guys still can't figure it out

It's not stupidity, it's infatuation with Jimmy G.

Dense? Didn't Kyle himself say it was a design short pass there?

Aiyuk wasn't the primary.

THe first four seconds LITERALLY PROVE YOU WRONG.

"The zone coverages guys were so deep."

It's really stemming from the same foundation that lead to the belief that Jimmy was better than he was. Seen too many other opinions that'd be considered way out there not related to Himmy.

Finally have one at QB. Been two decades. Beautiful thing.

To your other point, as long as he keeps being successful despite Kyle's mini stroke each time, Kyle might start modifying the offense more to highlight that moxy. Not sure.
And in what way would he modify that play? THE ROUTE ALREADY EXISTS IN THE PLAY. The ONLY reason Kyle was surprised the throw was made is because THE COVERAGE WAS DEEP. That isn't a play where Aiyuk is off limites. Jesus f**king tapdancing Christ I cannot with you people. THE COVERAGE DICTATES WHERE THE f**kING BALL GOES IN THEORY. When your QB is so good that he can throw it deep even when the COVERAGE THE COVERAGE THE MOTHER f**kING GODDDAMNN COVERAGE tells you to throw short, then you have an elite QB. That does NOT MEAN IT ABSO f**kING LUTELY DOES NOT MEAN that the QB is not supposed to throw there in general, and that in order to incorporate that throw into the "real" offense it has to be changed. That is ASININE. The route is already there and is in the progression already, and is entirely dependent on the coverage. LITERALLY NOTHING in the scheme needs to change AT ALL to include that route because it is literally already there. The ONLY thing odd about this throw is that the COVERAGE in theory suggested the ball should have gone short. THE COVERAGE. Guess what? Teams do not actually run the same coverage every time. I don't know if you realized that, but believe it or not, sometimes the coverage CHANGES, which, again, believe it or not, generally changes where the QB should throw the ball.

The only thing that happened here is Brock took what he wanted because he could. He didn't violate the play design. He just made a throw that most guys can't. But the route is ONE HUNDRED PERCENT VALID AND PART OF THE PLAY. It's just that a lesser QB would take the open check down because the coverage had backed off.

God shoot me.

I repeatedly said last night that the coverage dictates where the ball goes. I said it again today when talking about "clearing routes" and NC completely ignored that point.

Been said by multiple people. It's not recognizing there's a difference between decision making within the offense and out of structure play.

If that is the case than he has absolutely no idea what an out of structure play is.

Psychooooooooooo. Wow.

Take a breath, sunshine. We haven't even played Philly yet.

It's not so much just an application of the idea to this play but the general sense that Jimmy ran the offense as designed and Brock is better because he's saying f**k Kyle and has the balls to step out of it more… when really it's Brock running the offense much better than Jimmy and mixing in some out of structure elements as well.

I'm pretty sure I generally only go there to point out how much better Brock is.

... and to keep the page count going.
