The "he's throwing to completely wide open receivers" criticism/complaint is so ridiculous. If you go back and watch the All-22, those receivers are open because of Purdy throwing it early, throwing it anticipation, getting the ball to the receiver at the right spot where they have a step on the defense and can just grab it and go. Put a QB that is less gifted in the same spot and suddenly those receivers don't look so open anymore because the ball is arriving late and the defense has caught up and now have an opportunity to make a play on the ball. This is why #1 complaint with Alex Smith, Kaepernick and even Garoppolo who despite his quick release also had a tendency to hold on to the football too long at times.

Watching this offense is like watching those Manning Colts offenses back in the day. Yeah he had great weapons like Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne and others but that offense worked as well as it did because the ball was coming out earlier and those receivers looked open as hell constantly because of it. Not that those guys couldn't fight for contested passes but when the quarterback is delivering it early, not only are you in a better position to catch it, you're in a better position to get upfield and start picking up yards after the catch.

Tom Moore was the OC for those Colts teams for a long time and he always used the example of "if we're both going to the airport and you think you know where the airport is and I know exactly where the airport is, which one of us gets there faster?" when discussing the advantage the offense has over the defense. With Manning at QB, the Colts had a skilled professional driver getting them to the airport. Not that I'm saying that Purdy=Manning or whatever other hyperbole but he has a similar quality of anticipation and being able to get the ball out and trust the receiver to be where they are supposed to be rather than needing to visually confirm them first breaking open.

Its not a gimmick, its not luck, its not just a matter of having high end talent, its QB's that are elite in processing and anticipation putting their playmakers in the best possible position to go out and make plays.

While that's all true, there is more to it than Acho is implying, because we are averaging the same YAC per completion this year as we averaged last year (6.6 yards per completion), which is also the same YAC per completion as we averaged in 2021 and 2019 and less than we averaged in 2018. We've always been near the top in YAC every season under Kyle.

The other side of the equation is Brock is 2nd in the league in completed air yards per completion at 7.0.

Yea, and I would say that's one of the biggest differences between Brock and his predecessors. Brock is more willing target deeper parts of the field than his predecessors and more capable when doing so.

I want Brock to win the League MVP but I want a SB more. Brock has a long up hill battle for MVP, I think he deserves it and should get it, but there are too many talking heads that want to minimize what he has done. Why? I don't know. But there seems to be some type of agenda to pass over Brock.

For one, when was the last time a QB had the stats Brock has, weapons or not, that you can remember and there was such an argument them getting the MVP? They had stats like Brock and in past MVP's there was no debate.[ Edited by bud49 on Dec 6, 2023 at 6:20 PM ]

It's missing the Seattle game highlights

I have been waiting patiently everyday for two weeks now for there to be a 2023 Brock Purdy highlight video. Yes. It is missing the SEA game but atleast we have a 2023 Brock Purdy highlight video. So I will take it.

Only reason I mentioned the Seattle game because one of the best throws was in it. That TD to Aiyuk
It still seems surreal that we drafted traded 3 first rounders, drafted Lance, lucked into Purdy and the best NFL contract of all time, and are SB favorites with an MVP favorite. And other guy who's close too.

The NFL is absurd and I love it!

Would be funny if Brock didn't make the PB but get the MVP and the SB

That's how fans vote lol. They're all just voting for their teams quarterback, while we just look at what Vegas says.

In a seriousness, this front office pulled one of the worst draft trades and best draft picks off all time in successive years, and we know about this because Lance got hurt multiple times.

If Lance beats AZ in 2021, he probably stays the starter. If he doesn't get injured in 2022, Purdy's just the backup.
Weird and awesome.

LIke some bizarre curse that turns out actually positive in the end.

"Use three first round picks and a franchise QB will be yours!"

"Alright, Trey Lance, let's f**king go, we are so back!!!"

yup

it doesn't matter how you find a franchise/elite qb

you keep trying until you find one and then you hold on tight and SURROUND HIM WITH TALENT

I thought they took a good shot with Lance at the time. I can see why Kyle like Lance with the potential talent. Hiting on a 1st rd qb is rare, as evident, but then to hit on a late round qb is even more difficult. You can go through years, maybe a decade, without having one in the late round to show up like Brock did. He's not an average NFL qb, he's top tier NFL. Just amazing.

It's like you trade away your home for a bag of gem encrusted goblets, but found out they are all fake. Lost your home. But that plain ceramic cup at the bottom of the bag gives you ever lasting life.

To be honest, the whole Trey Lance thing... I think it says more about how special a find Brock Purdy was.
Trey Lance was always a project whose timing didn't fit with a team ready to win now. If he never broke his ankle, Trey was going to get his 2nd year to get the experience he was needing, and we would've gone into this season dedicating all of our resources to give him the best opportunity to succeed. Would he have become a good QB? No idea. I think, in time, he will be and I think Dallas should really explore that (after we bounce them from the playoffs again ), but that ankle injury was catastrophic to his long-term future here, and Brock Purdy's emergence put the nail in that coffin.

Because the plan was to create a rushing offense that featured Elijah Mitchell, Deebo Samuel, and a run threat at QB, which would've opened up opportunities for deep play action shot plays. That would've been our offense for a couple years until Trey grew as a passer. This plan would've been a great question mark, and we would all have felt great urgency for him to become The Guy before this current roster's Super Bowl window closed.

But then Brock Purdy came around. He was already ready to execute a pro-style offense, where the QB could play with anticipation, go through progressions. He showed that he had the improvisational ability that the modern NFL QB needs. He plays with poise, and most importantly, he's shown Shanahan that he can be trusted to throw the ball in the fourth quarter. It's why, when we're locked in, we're reaching our potential and blowing teams out.

Brock Purdy's a special QB and I'm so excited to see where this goes.
