It's simple:
1st round pick that does well with few mistakes = praise for being elite, emphasize success
1st round pick that does poorly with tons of mistakes = bust, but given 3-4 chances to prove 1st round status again so you can eventually emphasize the success
Late pick/UDFA that does well with few mistakes = emphasize the mistakes, because that's who he "really" is. Bet on him eventually failing

Brett favres first nfl pass was to himself, also. Lol it was batted and he grab it and ran. Lmao fun fact
Steve had one of those
Anyone did this and score? That would get you two TDs (1 pass TD and 1 reception TD) on the stat in one play. It might break the NFL scoring stats.

Pointing out a QBs height, weight or 40 time are facts. Saying he's great or elite are subjective statements. It's obviously not a necessity that successful QBs need to be over 6'3" and 230 lbs or run a 4.5 40. Size can be an asset but they aren't a guarantee of success. Same for speed. The ideal QB would have the size, speed and all the other traits that make a QB great. Very few in history have had the entire package.
If Brock was taller, he may have been considered a better prospect and not been there at pick #262. I love that he is agile and elusive with that short area quickness. To me, that is more helpful than being a couple inches taller. He has no issues seeing over the interior OL to throw to the middle of the field, and doesn't get passes batted down.
OLinemen need to know the timing of those passes so they can punch the DLinemen in the stomach just before those passes are thrown.
you don't get that many batted balls from shorter QBs cause they need to get the ball over the OL also.
Of course OLinemen know the timing. They know the snap count and where the QB usually will be when he hitches and throws. They aren't dumb.
you can't have OL punching guys in the stomach after two secs just to punch them cause it's a quick out.
It's done all the time, example the Bill walsh 3 yard slant passes - they time the cut blocks (back then) to bring down the OLine's hands. Again, OLinemen can process a lot of info and aren't *dumb* is what I think the original poster was implying.

If Brock was taller, he probably wouldn't be a 49er.....which means he's the perfect height.
Lmao that's most likely true.
also, if the teams knew his arm strength was going to dramatically improve between the end of his senior year and training camp - he would of been selected a lot higher.
Yeach but that *insane* Drew Brees accuracy though. (Drew was a 2nd round pick)
You know what I loved most about the Brock and Saban story? Is that when Saban said Brock's accuracy was average - Brock knew hr was full of s**t because Brock knows he's super accurate. Lol gotta love that confidence.
Yeah, I immediately saw Brock's accuracy when he first played, and I thought is was an aberration, until I saw it again and again, and I said this guy is special. Then I saw the Arm strength (50+ air yards to Kittle in the Redskin's game in 2022) From then on, I thought this guy is generational. I think, his arm is stronger than Joe's. More equivalent to Steves. Not as mobile as Steve, but also as - or a bit more - accurate than Steve. G.E.N.E.R.A.T.I.O.N.A.L. Talent!

They can't give him an extension until after his third season. So after 24 seasons going into 25 season.

I'd have to see the plays he's talking about, but I dunno... Major YAC happened on a number of plays. Balls were thrown where the defender didn't have a chance at a pass break-up. That doesn't sound like a day where he was off-target on throws.

Got to take advantage now while we have all the extra cap room. I feel it is going to be a big extension.

I'm a huge fan of his too. Ever since that Miami game, I've been in love with his game. I also thought at first that it might be a blip on the radar, but then after a quite a few games - I was like man.. this guy is playing great and maintaining it.
ever since I saw his play in the playoffs, I knew he was special. You learn a lot about a qb when they play in the playoffs, especially at a young age. He handled it so well and was there when we needed him.
i really think he found a guy who is going to go down as an all time great 49er and more than capable of winning us 3+ Super Bowls if we can maintain the team and stay healthy.

You could almost write a movie, you just don't see that much poise, he looked like a 10 year vet game 1. Then the injury, and would he play this year, well he was back way ahead of schedule and balling. So it's been nothing but extremely impressive. We got a chance for a Purdy parade here, in Feb.

Brock's agent will push for everything he can get his client, but I wonder if Brock will be the type to follow Brady's example and take just a little less in order to keep the great players around him. Either way he's gonna make bank.
