QB Brock Purdy Thread

I remember listening to Brock Purdy's father interview with 95.7 the game and the guy seemed really down to earth and super humble. Really likeable guy. Imagine being a father, buying tickets in advance for Tom Brady's last game in the Bay and watching your son, in his first ever start absolutely dismantling the opponent to the point that he wouldn't even play the fourth quarter. Absolutely surreal!

lol, Purdy's mentor.

In theory anyways. He was a more legitimate mentor to Purdy than he was heir to Brady. lol
From everything said, and I know the JC club will hate this, but Trey was more of a mentor to Purdy than Jimmy. Trey was the one helping him with tips early on, getting his first TD pass for him, etc. Jimmy was throwing by himself the whole off-season, and by the time the regular season started it was too late to mentor him.

wonder if we will finally get a 'i was wrong' style update

Hopefully it doesn't come to that. By that I mean, he already said if the 49ers win the Super Bowl with Brock he'll stop covering football. Best case scenario, by this time next year he's focused on basketball.

I'm guessing he's holding out hope the Ravens do a number on us, and if BP passes that test with flying colors, he may have to admit defeat

I don't know if I've ever said this before, but credit to Grant Cohn for seeming to finally come around

"Better to miss on a Day 3 pick than a top 10 pick."

Basically you want BPA with your high end draft picks, and you can get the QB mid to late rounds. Build the team up around the QB. Then you are locked into a team controlled QB deal. We have a window for the ages here.

https://www.si.com/nfl/49ers/news/49ers-qb-brock-purdy-has-disrupted-the-quarterback-market

Grant has been saying the 49ers should spend high picks on impact players and low picks on QBs for around three years. His argument is eventually you'll find a Jimmy clone, but at a tenth of the price, and you'd be able to field an elite team around him. Then, when contract time comes, let him walk and do it again.

It's a radical and stupid idea, but it's not too far removed from what actually happened with us. The difference is, we're extending Brock. because he's not a Jimmy clone. He's elite.

We'll see.

First, the Ravens are not going to be easy. They are the best team we've faced this year. But second, even if Brock again looks great and we win, this dude ain't backing down. He's too obsessed with elite arm strength and mobility to notice that Brock is good enough in both categories and elite in all the other ones.

But, everyone else, except maybe Nick Wright, will have to grudgingly admit Brock is a top QB. And I think even Wright will have to admit Purdy is a top QB if he has another 4 TD performance against the Ravens.

That last TD throw to Deebo…that's not just a throw that only elite QBs make….thats a throw that only HoF QBs can make. Not saying Brock is a lock for Canton, but sheesh he is making tough throws look routine

Was great placement. Also a great catch. The Aaron Rodgers special.

I agree...

Funny - there were people in gameday thread banging the drum that that was a severely underthrown pass that he got lucky with.

Some people don't understand what they're seeing.

I remember some dude saying that about the Deebo pass against the Giants too. Both are absolutely masterclasses on throwing the ball.

jfc lol

Look at the odds right now, they're just talking for the ratings, if Lamar had a chance he'd be much closer to Brock in the odds
This is what most of the anti-Purdy sentiment is.

People who completely wrote him off, had him as just a backup or practice squad QB at best or didn't even consider him in the first place and now face having to admit that they screwed up in their initial evaluations or keep doubling down and praying on his failure so they can point and say "see, we were right all along!"

Bingo.
What's the reasoning behind constantly changing the name of this thread?
Gonna need a Brock Purdy confessional thread soon
