(I'm paraphrasing) but essentially that's what happened and how Bill spotted Rice for the first time. Walsh was able to spot talent just by glancing at players. Same with Charles Haley, he had a very low grainy film of Charles playing at James Madison and said he wanted him. The rest is history. Walsh was an unbelievable talent spotter/evaluator/developer.

Number one defense in points allowed IIRC.

Just another piece of evidence to discard that stat as super meaningful without a bunch of other numbers and/or context.

Niners defense was way better just as an easy example.

Well yeah, but I was specifically referring to that defense. I remember in the days leading up to the game the media was trying to say Steve At**ter was the next Ronnie Lott, bunch of garbage like that. Joe made that defense his b***h.

Edit: hilarious that the zone considers At**ter a bad word. My compliments.

I may be mistaken but I'm almost positive I heard that walsh would tell teams he can't find Jerry's tape during the process of the draft because he didn't want people trying to draft him. Lol because it was film back then and small schools like MSVS didn't have a lot of copies or something like that. Lol bill was smart and tricky, would do a lot of stuff for an edge.

would be great is this was real. Lmao

Brock is too humble, but I'd love if he clapped back like that.

on this play, they had a Spy on Purdy and he still made him miss along with CGJ for the 1st down.

The truth is Walsh had 3 receivers he wanted to draft in 1985...and Jerry wasn't the top priority. It was either Al Toon or Eddie Brown. Toon went to the Jets and Walsh wanted Eddie so he tried to trade with his old buddy and now Cincy HC Sam Wyche. But the latter said no and selected Eddie.

Walsh was afraid his last option was going to be selected by the Cowboys and thats why he traded up with New England to jump the Cowboys to get Jerry.

The VITRIOL and RHETORIC is absolutely disgusting on Twitter. It's out of control. Game manager, game manager, Trent Dilfer won the Super Bowl, Nick Foles won the Super Bowl.

Why do you care so much?

People have said worse things about better quarterbacks, it's just what happens.

If somebody is WRONG on the internet I will tell them.

Maybe just don't care as much? Let the 49ers play ball and hopefully win? Enjoy the game?
