Purdy is covering for Kyle. He's calling bad pass plays with not enough pass protection. Purdy is making ridiculous throws to make these bad plays work. There should rarely be a pass play when McCaffrey, aiyuk, kettle, or deebo can't be open. He's forced to extend cause Kyle won't ensure good protection. Luckily Brock can do it. It's alot to ask though

After rewatching the Lions game, Purdy's first half struggles were massively overblown. He came out strong on the first 2 drives and we should have come away with 10 points.
The 3rd drive was bad. First he had 2 high balls to Aiyuk, but those were on the sideline and may have been equal throwaway and equal give your guy a chance to make a play. Then the interception where his arm was hit. Still probably not a great decision, but we've seen him hit those mid-level routes over a LB enough times that he should be cut a little slack.
The 4th drive we were forced into a 3rd and long and he scrambled out, almost hitting Aiyuk 15-20 yards downfield. No rhythm at all on that 3 and out.
What really stood out beyond the defense being abysmal was our inability to get the run game going. A lot of plays under 3 yards, with a few negative plays that forced us into 3rd and longs.
People saw 7 points vs. 24 and thought "QB was bad" more than "defense was bad" when the latter was far more the truth.
It's a bit of both, though I'd say the offense was bad rather than just Brock. Statistically, the Lions have a great offense and a terrible defense. It wasn't a surprise that our defense struggled against them. It was a surprise that our offense wasn't able to keep pace.
"When you dive into it, and you're watching, it's not a quarterback who's managing all those tabs they put on him," Spagnuolo stated. "He's for real. He makes all the throws. He's really, really smart."
Spagnuolo highlights another dimension to the 24-year-old's game that poses a challenge for defenses. Having only extensively studied 49ers film just now, the coach was surprised by Purdy's athleticism.
"This is another quarterback that, when you cover everything back there, he finds a lane in a pass rush lane and can take off," Spagnuolo said. "He did it last week. He's done it in every playoff game. He gets positive yards. That puts a lot of strain on us defensively. Thoroughly, thoroughly, thoroughly impressed with him."

The Lions' pass defense was weak. Their run defense was quite good.
Excellent interview here. Sean Salisbury talking about Brock Purdy is very good and underestimated. Lazy analysis and stereotypes that they use against him. He's a former NFL QB and also an analyst.

I've noticed a ton of batted passes off Brock last half of season, is there a way to correct that this off-season? Not being a smart ass I've loved Brock since he took over.

He doesn't get that many batted passes overall. The Ravens in particular did but they have a monster defense. They also seemed like they knew our plays and were jumping into throwing lanes. A super tall guy like 6'6" or 6'7" could block one. Because Brock is not that tall. He usually finds the throwing lane or can scramble out. People have played at his height before.
Warren Sapp COOKS Cam Newton for his latest comments about Brock Purdy:
"Cam is just being an ass. I don't know why but he is. Brock Purdy did a milk check at the end of that game. Did you see it when he took off for a first down? Good ol milk check…
this is about exactly how I feel. He's a glorified running back. He had 1-2 good years in a decade (which Brady deserved that MVP all day). Never liked him. Exceptional athlete and good football player but shouldn't be talking like he was THAT guy. Lol if anytbing he is a disappointment for a #1 pick.

Chris Jones bats a lot of balls. Need to get him in check

Every former QB has been complimentary of Brock's play this season except for Cam. Cam just making clown takes.

The interior line has to do a better job of anchoring in pass protection. But running at the DT's with traps or draws might make them start reading and reacting instead of just bull rushing from the get-go.
