In total, Purdy has played against four teams that rank top 10 in both defensive DVOA and EPA: the Steelers, Cowboys, Browns, and Ravens. The results have been mixed with a lean toward below average.

Overall, across those three contests, Purdy has posted a 2-2 record and has struggled more often than usual with his accuracy, completing just 66-of-112 passes. He also threw five of his 11 interceptions from the season during those four contests.

Below is a look at Purdy's cumulative numbers in those contests.

StatTotalRecord2-2
Comp.%58.9
Passing yards852
Pass TDs7
INTs5
Yards/attempt7.6
Passer rating85.1

Of course, it's fair to note that this is a small sample size and included his four-interception game against the Ravens, which could be considered an outlier.

It's important to look at Purdy's performance in each game to assess where the truth lies about his play against top-tier NFL stop units.

Ehh....he was throwing it a lot better earlier in the season. He's been good when he's really needed to be but he's also missed a whole lot of throws that he was hitting in the past. I don't know if it's nerves or what but he can't come out misfiring early against KC the way he did against Green Bay and Detroit.

It was a driving monsoon rainstorm in the Packers game. He played fine considering that. He was lights out in the 2nd half against the Lions after a slow start. Maybe the best he ever played. Teams tend to be pretty good as you advance in the playoffs. It's not the Commanders anymore. These are better teams.

It wasn't a driving monsoon, let's not exaggerate. He was also misfiring similarly early on against Detroit in otherwise perfect conditions. Greg Cosell commented on it and he's pretty straight up when he comes to reiterating what he sees on film. He hasn't looked the same, he's been missing throws that he's normally money on, hesitating to pull the trigger at times when he wasn't before.

To beat KC, Purdy will need to be the Purdy we saw against Pittsburgh, Dallas and the Eagles.

Personally, I think defenses have been throwing the kitchen sink at him in the first half - disguised coverages, zone rotations, blitzes, stunts, etc... and he's taken about a half (and the offensive line about a half) to get used to what the defenses are doing and then start cooking. Just my opinion.

His 2nd half against the Lions was one of the best half's he ever had. We are sitting home planning for next year if he didn't have it. He saved us.

Hopefully this will only help him in the long run, for this game and into the future because I feel this won't be his only Super Bowl appearance.

You mean, to beat KC, the Niners will need to be the Niners we saw against the Steelers, the Cowboys and the Eagles.
If the defense is not better, if Kyle is too pass happy, if the O-Line is as bad as it was at times against the Lions, it's game over against this team.
They all have to play their best football. Not just Purdy. And he has to play better don't get me wrong.

Interesting phrase, would never be used for Allen/Mahomes/Burrow or Herbert or Jackson. Somewhere deep down, he along with other DCs in the NFL think he is a product of the system.
Ok.

I want Spagnuolo humbled.

He needs to f**king lose a Super Bowl already.

Your mouth to God's ears. Amen

TBH, Purdy was still throwing it great until that 1st pick vs Baltimore. Long, downfield passes to Kittle got us to the goal, then that 1st pick. After that he had all of those tipped balls bounce the wrong way and since has seemed more gushy and timid. I think he still needs to shake off whatever PTSD he picked up in that game and just get back to slinging it.

Moving the pocket will be important for Brock. Spags will most likely blitz him often. Balls being knocked down and tipped has been an issue at times. Either that or Brock shows his athleticism and runs it himself.

What's Brock's completion percentage vs the blitz?

That's a rhetorical question BTW👍

If he played better in the first half they wouldn't have needed a crazy rally in the second. If you let KC get up like that and struggle to do anything on offense for an entire half, the game is over.

He's got to be better, from start to finish is all I'm saying.

Im confused. Has Brock not been playing like himself?
May your "magic beans" be with Brocks this week! With all the SB/LV distractions this week, the ability for him to focus on that same core will be the key. Last week, we knew his legs would be key last week. My switch came on when Brock recovered that goal line fumble against UNI early in his career. We wouldn't have won without it.
