I disagree simply based on Purdy's #'s. There is no way Purdy puts up statistically the best season a 49er QB has ever had if his offensive line fully counters the positives of the run-oriented system/playcalling/offensive skill set around him. If that were the case, even if Purdy had just an average offensive line, he woulda re-written all sorts of passing records? Every second game is deemed a perfect one? I can't see that scenario.
We all agree that they need to improve the line.
I think he put up those numbers in spite of the pass protection. You did see the games where he escaped so many sacks it was unbelievable, right? When our unit consistently ranks in the bottom five teams, that's a huge issue.
But you are right, we all agree that the line needs to improve. I don't care if we get worse run blocking as long as pass protection Gets better. We will all be happy and we will win at least two more Super Bowls in the next six years.
