QB Brock Purdy Thread

Doing what he does, processing capability, accuracy, timing and anticipation…. It is not that hard to rank him among his peers. He is easily top seven but like I said before with the horrific pass protection, he plays more like top 3 to 5.

I disagree simply based on Purdy's #'s. There is no way Purdy puts up statistically the best season a 49er QB has ever had if his offensive line fully counters the positives of the run-oriented system/playcalling/offensive skill set around him. If that were the case, even if Purdy had just an average offensive line, he woulda re-written all sorts of passing records? Every second game is deemed a perfect one? I can't see that scenario.

We all agree that they need to improve the line.

I think he put up those numbers in spite of the pass protection. You did see the games where he escaped so many sacks it was unbelievable, right? When our unit consistently ranks in the bottom five teams, that's a huge issue.

But you are right, we all agree that the line needs to improve. I don't care if we get worse run blocking as long as pass protection Gets better. We will all be happy and we will win at least two more Super Bowls in the next six years.

He's not putting up the bulk of those numbers in the dropback pass game, right?

He has one of the easiest QB jobs in the NFL overall. Great run game… probably the best playaction pass game… good talent around him.

Perhaps, but the gap between him and the second rated passer in categories like YPC, 1st down %, passing TD% is massive. He is miles ahead of the pack in several key categories.

What should be alarming is that Jimmy was also pretty high in a lot of metrics, he led the league in Y/C and NY/A in 2021...but most of us knew what he really was. This offense inflates Brock's numbers, no doubt about it. The question of what would happen if this is a dropback-heavy pass-heavy offense, is still open but imo until CMC and Deebo are gone, this offense wouldnt change its identity drastically.

I don't think we should be alarmed. We should be happy. We can have an efficient offense for multiple years without having an elite QB.

I am happy until the QB gets paid like an elite QB

I was wondering if that's what you might be referencing in terms of being alarmed. I do share some concern there.

The good news is we have another full year to see how he plays. 2.5 seasons of evaluation is a hell of a lot better than 5 games, lol.

That I agree with, we should have a good idea of what we are dealing with by the end of next season. Hopefully it's a super bowl winning qb that played elite. I want to see him keep improving, which I'm confident he will.

Im hoping for a nice jump in his play from year 2-3 and the full off season with no injury or rookie rush. He's grinding all ready, so that's great. He doesn't seem content at all.

He barely led Y/C and didn't lead any of the adjusted yards per attempt.

Brock was dominant across the board in ways Jimmy never came close to dominating.

You watched Jimmy play right? There were clear differences in how they played the position. That's not even taking into account that Jimmy was a seasoned vet and Brock was in his 2nd season with having to rehab all offseason.

I have no doubt that Brock could perform at a high level regardless of all our weapons if he actually had solid pass pro around him. Seeing him hit Chris Conley and McCloud on big plays in the SB tells me all I need to know about him.

Give him time to find open guys and he's going to move the ball.

Now if we can keep our playmakers around AND get the OL to pass pro better then we're really going to be dangerous.

let's do that!

Two points:

1. Jimmy's offenses weren't as talented as Brock's outside of the stretch Jimmy played in '22.

2. Brock is clearly a better QB than Jimmy.

We haven't seen anything from Brock to indicate he is anything but a top 5 QB at least.

I think he's a top 10 QB with room to improve. I think his skillset is a great fit for our offense and he has enough athleticism and saavy to make positive plays out of structure at times.
