JTO's new breakdown is out, and man, it's clear that Purdy had a rough day. But it's also clear that the pass protection is abysmal. Something is seriously amiss. Either these guys are being coached poorly by Foerster, or Brendel is really screwing up the line calls. Or maybe it's both.
Brendel is not a good starting C. He shouldn't be starting at C for this talented team and it's big goals. The same goes for the RT McKivitz.
Against any quality teams with good DL talent, Brendel & McKivitz get exposed regularly to where this offense is handicapped and thus, can't run as effectively with a balanced attack. This really shows up in crunch time - too often we've seen the negative results. It's beyond frustrating.
Brendel is the worst player on this OL easily. McKivitz is sub-par but his bad moments generally seem less frequent. At minimum, we need a new center.
I get the sense that Brendel is the true weak link as well.
Ryan Kelly will be a free agent if the Colts don't resign him. He's been a top five center. We should do everything in our power to get him but I don't know Purdy's next contract will afford us that ability.
I would not be opposed to beefing up guard and trying Puni at center too. He worked out there at the senior bowl.
