You don't make sense bro.

To be fair, your post implied that he had done enough in 1.5 seasons to deserve that big money deal… almost as if what happens this season doesn't matter.

He can play himself out of that kind of contract this year, and possibly next depending on what happens this offseason.

He has done enough and even with the way he has played this season he still deserves it. Do you expect Brock to all of a sudden turn into Ryan Leaf anytime soon? Brock is on pace for another 4,000 yard season. And if all these other QB's who haven't done s**t in the playoffs got paid then no question Brock Purdy has earned it!!!

(first time I agree with Strwy)

We can argue about how he's played, but it's really beside the point (for now at least). What he does over the next 9+ games, into next season potentially, is going to figure into contract negotiations.

Let's just say for the sake of discussion that he plays inarguably poorly for the rest of the year. In that scenario the team is not simply going to pay him like a top QB because he looked like one in his first 1.5 years starting.

You get paid for potential performance, not prior performance. Obviously. It's the entire reason dudes hold out for guaranteed money… they know an injury diminishes their future potential.

Don't know what you think is funny. Every bit of playing time before Brock negotiates a new deal is going to factor into that deal. They aren't going to pay him based on his peak alone.

So how do teams pay their players coming off rookie contract? Is it the potential they have shown from PRIOR PERFORMANCE? Or do teams disregard what they've done in previous years and just say oh yah he can play, he looks the part, laser rocket arm, pay him? Lol

He's earned every dollar of the $60 mil a year contract that's coming his way. If you need more time than, it just shows you haven't been watching the 9ers these past couple of years!!

I have been paying close attention. Unfortunately, you do not get paid based on what you have done in the past. Look at what happened to Colin Kaepernick. This year Brock so far has played okay. We are lucky to be in a bad division. I think giving him 20 million each year for the next 2 years is pretty fair.

I had to read up to understand the context… and it seems you actually think contracts are based off prior performance. That's amusing. Past performance is a factor in determining future performance, but they aren't one in the same.

I still disagree, because he's shown more times than he hasn't that he still can play. You're gonna discount 9 games over what he has already accomplished? Sure his poor play may factor in his upcoming contract but do you actually think by a lot?

Yes prior performance matters. But the bolded above, a statement you made to support your argument, is just plain silly.

aiyuk got his contract based off what the team thought his value would be over the period of the contract. His previous level of play is one factor to consider, as is his age, his coach ability, his raw talent etc etc. "we were thinking you were worth $25million, but you played so well last season, we'll give you $30"…. That's not a thing

and it won't be a thing for purdy. He'll get the contract they think he'll be worth next year and beyond, and they'll use the last couple years as data to pull from.

edit: I don't think you're dumb. I think we're probably saying the same thing but differently

That's amusing huh, how doesn't it? Why did the 49ers pay Aiyuk, Trent Williams and Nick Bosa? You people are contradicting yourselves with, what if Brock plays poorly, well that would be past tense right and prior play is it not?
