I wonder if Sunday's game will finally put to rest that favorite take of a lot of the National TV pundits who like to say that "any QB" could get the job done in Kyle's system. No way to know for sure of course, but one has to suspect that if Brock had been in, the game would have been a lot more competitive than it was.

I can, however quote 49er Superbowl o-lines... And I totally disagree with the value of a stout line...
I also think Purdy is a more then franchise QB, with his attacking mentality...I can't think of a QB that would benefit more from the best online he can get.
Yeah he is going to get hit from free blitzers, every QB does...but at least a great line can help make that a predictable rush from the edge instead of instant pressure from the middle
The 49er lines weren't good in protection after 1986. Guy McIntyre in particular was poor in protection. Steve Wallace was very beatable, as was Bubba Paris, who was frequently out of shape. Harris Barton...it's worth noting how difficult a position right tackle is to play...but he was far from dominant. Jesse Sapolu was a perfect example of what I say about most teams using a mediocre lineman as the center and keeping him because he knows the scheme and makes the calls.
The problem the 49ers are having with Brendel is they don't scheme to make him the help guy. Defenses get him in one-on-one matchups and expose him. Kyle and his staff are just bad at coaching football.

Rule Number One, people.
There is some interesting discussions in this thread, but several posters seem to need to make snide and personal comments in their posts. It ruins the thread and encourages others to be equally obnoxious.

I'll settle for something better than the 38th best C in the league.
#49ers Jake Brendel is rated as the 38th Center in the entire NFL in pass protection.

That's literally LAST of all eligible centers who snapped a ball this year. There's backups out there ranking better than the Niners starting C.
Why is he still starting? #FTTB pic.twitter.com/uNlKxCb34O
This is partly why I have 0 concerns about Brock, this offense hands the protection calls to the Center, making him arguably the most important part of the OL and we arguably have the worst in the NFL...and not even just among the starters.
It's also party why I'm concerned about Kyle...how is he allowing this to happen? I don't know if the plan/hope was Feliciano getting healthy but we can't have Brendel terrorizing the offense. At this point I'd rather see if Zakelj can do any better. Hard to imagine it can get much worse.
But Brock to me while showing some warts has had to battle a ton of adversity this season and while he's had a couple of stinkers it has been a team effort...led by Brendel.
His numbers pale vs last season but they're good enough when you account for injuries/poor play around him that I have no doubt he's a guy we can build around.
He may not be Mahomes level but he's more than good enough for US. Invest in improving the OL around him and keep drafting well and we'll be back to winning games consistently.

I don't think resigning Brock will break the bank.
They'll find a way to make it work so we aren't paralyzed.

I am totally cool with letting Brock sit out for a while. Why risk more injury with this s**t team..and Cold Shower Brenda being on the o-line? Let Allen/Dobbs/whomever else play and protect our most important player. The season is over anyway. Allen is no bueno though. We need to clean house on several players.
