not trading Aiyuk set our season on the path to bad juju

We'll see what Aiyuk looks like coming back...he may not be right until 2026 unfortunately but I'm not going to count him out yet.

Second we can clearly see the impact of not having Aiyuk in this offense. Love Jennings and he's an absolute dog but he's not Aiyuk and thinking BA wasn't a game changer when he led the NFL in YPR until the last week of the season when he had to play with Sam Darnold is crazy.

Trading him away before the season would've led to an even worse season. We'd gain nothing from not having him this year.

like I've said he's closer to Baker than he is Mahomes/allen. I would hope his contract reflects that

go back to 2017 jimmy was pretty darn good. and if you look at jimmy he never really lost here, or had a down year. he was injured 2018 and 2020 and the team fell apart. but when healthy we were elite. this looks to be a losing season, and brock has played the whole year but 1 game. if you go back on baker i was laughed at for saying he's pretty good, which he is. he had a down period where he was a street FA.

Jimmy had a dominant defense around him every year they won those games. Jimmy in the offense the way it was this year would be pissing down his leg. Not a lot of playaction and low YAC....yikes.

Yes, you can still build around Purdy but the issue will be that even if he takes 50m per year I think the next few years are going to be very tight with the cap because the team can't --- for example --- just release Deebo, draft another WR, and save money. Releasing Deebo, after having extended his contract last season, really only removes Deebo from the team and doesn't free up much salary space. I'm not sure what the Hargrave numbers look like but my guess is we are in a similar boat with him. I'm not arguing that these players should remain on the team but just saying that their impact to the salary doesn't end just because the team moves on from them.

The only way to get Deebo off the team is a post-June 1 cut. That saves $5.2M in cap, but big dead money.
Hargrave $20,7M post-June 1. Only $3.2M pre-June 1.
Others that save:
Juice - $3M pre, $4.6M post-June 1
Floyd - $1.4M pre - $7.9 post.
Brendel - $1.4M post,

We currently have $49M in cap room for 2025. It will go up but we won't know how much until March.

I read there is a small window where they can trade him after the season that allows the post June 1 dead cap hit to play out...for all i know someone could've been making this up tho lol.

Either way I have no idea why we reworked Deebo's deal when everything looked like he'd be on the way out once we signed BA.

hardly, he entered a like 1-10 situation and was crushing it. faced #1 D and put like 45 or so on em. this is back when we had no dominant D. we were garbage.

this is where coaching comes into play. look at mcvay he drafts puka, fiske, verse and they are all stars from the jump. gotta play the kids and perhaps most important, coach them up, with a bigtime QB under serious contract.

Yea the way I see it is the cost for a good starting qb is what it is. It's on the fo and coaching staff to draft well and develop young talent. If Kyle and John are the combo some fans make them out to be, we shouldn't be worried about being talentless with a QB getting paid starter money

My guess is 4y 200M with that number possibly shifting up if he plays well the next 6 games. The 49ers may try to create an out after 2 years also.

I agree he's gonna get that, I don't think he's worth that. Is what it is. That's the market.

Right...and never looked the same way again.

I watched all those games the same way you did. That Jags game was awesome at the time but the defense was also playing well during that run. Teams averaged 19.8 points per game in those 5 games and that number is inflated largely from the Jags game since they scored 33 after scoring 2 TDs within like 30 seconds. That game also had a defensive score on our end.

I'm not going to pretend Jimmy didn't play well in those games and didn't revitalize the team but it's also stupid to pretend Jimmy was the key to our winning his whole time here and ignore how often the defense was able to help close out wins, especially in 2019.

the most recent guy gets paid. that's why lawrence got the big bucks and jimmy back in his day.

Baker didn't get paid that.

Baker signed cheap because he was a former bust who put out one year of good tape.

He wasn't a bust. The browns wanted Watson and made one of the all-time worst trades ever.

I wouldn't say $100M for 3 yrs is "cheap" Brock's only put one full yr of good tape.

just the facts, he was darn good upon his arrival and he did well in his time here. he was a mid tier starter, which is where we are heading with brock it seems. mid tier starter and paid. i don't pretend brock is the 1 guy on our team, or the reason we win either. we ain't winning and he's been starting all year but 1 game. he was a part of what we did last couple years and many other guys had a hand in that as well. i like both guys, i just don't pretend brock is drew montana

A trade option would have to come after June 1 and would only save $1.7M. Given the fact that it would come so late, no team will make that deal.

The restructure was to ensure we had Deebo. BA was ready to go to Pittsburgh and leave us with neither one next year. Our hand was forced.

It's never just the QB. Burrow can't buy a win even though he's got a juggernaut offense with Chase Higgins and Brown. Every qb is part of what the team does

exactly. brock does a lot of things well. you are probably never gonna get mr everything that has all traits. those guys are generational guys. so we lean into what brock does well, and when you invest in QB with a big contract, get some real OL upgrade and WR upgrade. maybe we have to cut some vets and get younger to afford it, that's just how it works.

Yea mr everything is basically what Kyle described as the perfect qb. A Brees/Brady like precision passer that also has the mobility of a Lamar/Vick. That qb is yet to exist, so yea we probably aren't getting that

yup, i would say maybe mahomes or elway, we tried with trey lance and we see the result on that. can't always get what you want.

brock is solid. i'll be happy for him if he gets the big deal.
It is difficult to evaluate (not that I'm any kind of expert). Purdy has regressed this season, yes... but, the entire team has regressed. They've never looked quite right this season. They've collapsed like the Eagles did last year, it seems.
