Faithful will consistently reference Jimmy's play in 2017, but conveniently ignore his play in 2018 prior to the injury.

The guy is and was a turnover machine. He had enough skill that Kyle could handcuff him and have a successful offense anyway.

he likes to ignore reality
Purdy may have regressed a little bit in some areas, but he also progressed in some areas. I don't believe his accuracy or his progressions got worse. I believe the pass protection was a huge issue and of course, BA and many of our other weapons weren't consistently out there not to mention the offensive player of the year. However, he got much better with his mobility and not relying on yards after catch, taking deep shots, so that's a plus.

i rather he got the ball out quicker to get that YAC like he used to.. people want to say separation.. but did you see how he was still throwing to guys barely open the last two seasons.. he's just thinking too much and needs to let it rip

I still don't understand what Jimmy did in 2017 that was so special? Yes, he was better than Hoyer and Beathard, and yes we went 5-0. Context would show that we were in a lot of close games prior to that and just a tad better at QB would get us over that hump. 7 TDS - 5 Ints isn't exactly world beating or what some make that out to be from Jimmy; maybe I'm alone on that one?

I think he played pretty well for the most part in the five 2017 games, but what was exciting was the future promise and the thought he was just beginning and would get better. It certainly wasn't a world beating performance and I def agree with your general premise that a jump from low tier backup to average starter at the position was enough to propel that team to those wins.

What jimmy was able to do was convert a few more 3rd downs when we were awful at that. We were close to being a 11 win team that year

More 3rd downs. Had a couple clutch game winning drives. Made some wow plays mainly off his one elite skill (his quick release).

this is revisionist. go back to that era. 99% of ppl said my goodness, this guy is the guy. shanalynch handed out that contract, biggest in NFL.

how ever you want to call it.. wow, clutch.. but converting 3rd downs is important. It's what sent this year into disarray

Right...and never looked the same way again.

I watched all those games the same way you did. That Jags game was awesome at the time but the defense was also playing well during that run. Teams averaged 19.8 points per game in those 5 games and that number is inflated largely from the Jags game since they scored 33 after scoring 2 TDs within like 30 seconds. That game also had a defensive score on our end.

I'm not going to pretend Jimmy didn't play well in those games and didn't revitalize the team but it's also stupid to pretend Jimmy was the key to our winning his whole time here and ignore how often the defense was able to help close out wins, especially in 2019.

Nick mullens had a great game once as well lol.

no one needs to try and defend Jimmy. The truth came out end of the day. He's barely a startable
QB on a mid team. The film backs it up.

I was just adding on to your post/thoughts. I obviously agree 3rd down conversions are critical.

I was 100 percent on board with Jimmy getting the contract he got at the time. I also would argue it was a product of circumstance and timing and more than what he showed on the field. In hindsight, it was a mistake and should not be used to justify paying Brock a massive deal when the circumstances are completely different. We should learn from past mistakes.

exactly. brock does a lot of things well. you are probably never gonna get mr everything that has all traits. those guys are generational guys. so we lean into what brock does well, and when you invest in QB with a big contract, get some real OL upgrade and WR upgrade. maybe we have to cut some vets and get younger to afford it, that's just how it works.

The issue with this statement is when you invest $200M in a QB, it's not always feasible to upgrade at WR/OL have studs all over the defense. We should all expect our highly paid FQB to elevate what he's got around him, not be Hindered by it

same here.. everyone was excited on what's to come. I had no issues, no one had issues with the signing.

As for Brock i would hope he signs something friendly since he has been getting a lot of endorsements, but it's a business and won't be upset if signs something crazy.

43-20 as QB1. guys get old and injured. watson is completely washed out and he looked like a star. watson is 29. guys don't just remain static their entire careers. they rise and fall. that's what makes the league interesting. but yeah go back 2017-2021 era jimmy was pretty darn good, particularly before the injury.
