Faithful will consistently reference Jimmy's play in 2017, but conveniently ignore his play in 2018 prior to the injury.
The guy is and was a turnover machine. He had enough skill that Kyle could handcuff him and have a successful offense anyway.

Purdy may have regressed a little bit in some areas, but he also progressed in some areas. I don't believe his accuracy or his progressions got worse. I believe the pass protection was a huge issue and of course, BA and many of our other weapons weren't consistently out there not to mention the offensive player of the year. However, he got much better with his mobility and not relying on yards after catch, taking deep shots, so that's a plus.

I still don't understand what Jimmy did in 2017 that was so special? Yes, he was better than Hoyer and Beathard, and yes we went 5-0. More 3rd downs. Had a couple clutch game winning drives. Made some wow plays mainly off his one elite skill (his quick release).

I watched all those games the same way you did. That Jags game was awesome at the time but the defense was also playing well during that run. Teams averaged 19.8 points per game in those 5 games and that number is inflated largely from the Jags game since they scored 33 after scoring 2 TDs within like 30 seconds. That game also had a defensive score on our end.
I'm not going to pretend Jimmy didn't play well in those games and didn't revitalize the team but it's also stupid to pretend Jimmy was the key to our winning his whole time here and ignore how often the defense was able to help close out wins, especially in 2019.

exactly. brock does a lot of things well. you are probably never gonna get mr everything that has all traits. those guys are generational guys. so we lean into what brock does well, and when you invest in QB with a big contract, get some real OL upgrade and WR upgrade. maybe we have to cut some vets and get younger to afford it, that's just how it works.

I was just adding on to your post/thoughts. I obviously agree 3rd down conversions are critical.
I was 100 percent on board with Jimmy getting the contract he got at the time. I also would argue it was a product of circumstance and timing and more than what he showed on the field. In hindsight, it was a mistake and should not be used to justify paying Brock a massive deal when the circumstances are completely different. We should learn from past mistakes.
