no one needs to try and defend Jimmy. The truth came out end of the day. He's barely a startable
QB on a mid team. The film backs it up.

43-20 as QB1. guys get old and injured. watson is completely washed out and he looked like a star. watson is 29. guys don't just remain static their entire careers. they rise and fall. that's what makes the league interesting. but yeah go back 2017-2021 era jimmy was pretty darn good, particularly before the injury.

I think Watson is a bit of an outlier. He kinda had some other major issues that caused his downfall. Mainly he's a Brown

I still don't understand what Jimmy did in 2017 that was so special? Yes, he was better than Hoyer and Beathard, and yes we went 5-0. Context would show that we were in a lot of close games prior to that and just a tad better at QB would get us over that hump. 7 TDS - 5 Ints isn't exactly world beating or what some make that out to be from Jimmy; maybe I'm alone on that one?

this is revisionist. go back to that era. 99% of ppl said my goodness, this guy is the guy. shanalynch handed out that contract, biggest in NFL.

Guess I'm the 1% then cause not revisionist for me. I would never make a guy the highest paid after a 5 game sample size of 7TDs and 5Ints

There's an old saying that QBs get too much credit for wins and too much blame for losses. I think that's still true. Maybe even more so since QBs don't call their own game like they used to.

you have to go back to that era of us getting stomped 2015, 2016 and 2017 and then he shows up and doesn't even know the playbook and we are crushing it. it was an exciting time to be a fan.

even though it was the highest, it wasn't ridiculously higher and being the highest only lasted a couple of weeks

He likely would have got the same deal on the open market. That's what the 49ers were facing given the timing of the move(s).

I'd also argue we are in a much stronger position in this context negotiating with Brock… unless you believe another team out there would sign him to a high end franchise QB like deal on the open market. I'm highly skeptical.

Should have never handed him the biggest contract after 5 games.

it was a good move he won a ton of games here. moseley executes his assignment and that's a world championship right there. but these are tired old debates. brock would do well to get something on the magnitude of the jimmy deal. brock has earned it he makes a historically low amount as QB1

knowing jimmy now, he would have left if we didn't.

I root for the 49ers, not Brock Purdy's wallet. He doesn't deserve to be overpaid because he's underpaid now, and Jimmy G's contract is not a barometer for successful contract decision making and is completely irrelevant.
Who gives a s**t about Jimmy? The truth came out the more he played. There's reason we moved off him, there's a reason LV dropped him as quick as they did and there's a reason why he's a backup currently.

brock is better, but they need to be smart about it.

and for the folks screaming to have Kyle fired, as soon as Brock signs that whole narrative is gone (being fired) those guys are tied together.

i don't think they are tied together.. but it should secure things for a bit. I can see KS here longer than Brock if Brock doesn't work out

I think they are from the aspect of not every HC candidate lining up to tie their career to Brock once he's paid elite money.

I do agree, I can see Kyle here longer than Brock.

this doesn't strike me as reality. everyone in the bldg loves brock. i am curious how minny handles Darnold. after all they drafted JJ. but we already made our bed with brock over sam. so if sam is a FA he isn't coming here. he would be expensive anyway.
