QB Brock Purdy Thread

This year, he has underthrown nearly every deep ball he has attempted.

So what is your expert football analysis? That he forgot how to throw deep?

Look, I don't blame someone when they say Brock isn't worth $60m a year. But QBs get paid based not only on merit, but because of the time their contract is up also. Brock may give us a discount, but he's gonna get $50m+.

I think Lawrence gets a better deal on the open market than Brock, right or wrong.

Totally agree. Mentioned it in a later post. He's just an example of what type of player could be found at a bargain in FA.

Sure just like Mayfield. Some busts can thrive in a new environment. But some are just busts. That's the gamble.

I think the idea would be to use that player as leverage in negotiation with Brock. And you have insurance if Brock were to get hurt as additional benefit.

I think the line contributes to that. Purdy needs to step in and use his whole body for those throws. When there is a DT in hos lap it will sail..

Brock is more important to our system than he would be in another one. It's not really about fantasy QB type rankings. Can you win with him? ok, sign him.

This thread is comedy tonight.

Brock is having a down year with half the team hurt, coming off of an MVP caliber season last year. And so many of you guys want to dump the best QB we have had since Steve Young? For what? Drafting a QB? Sam Darnold? Just laughable.

Yes, he had a s**t game tonight.

I'll speak for myself in saying that I don't want to dump him; but I also wouldn't sign him to anything near $60+ mil.

Do you think that if he were to hit FA; any other team would give him $50m+?

Ya, and we will renegotiate the following year based on his play then.

I don't think he's a 100% health wise and that's impacting his play, but part of a QBs salary is about them staying healthy.

I don't buy into this thing that he's been figured out. He's not a one year wonder. It's a mix of things, from his injury, injuries to his top receivers, OL, RBs, play calling at times. But if you want to make that 60 mil a year, gotta be able to overcome that as well to some degree.

I'm just saying we can't tag him for 2025. If we want to use the non exclusive franchise tag, we have a full season to get through first.

I like the idea in theory, how it fits our salary cap planning notwithstanding. But we would have to tell him we aren't extending him this offseason and he could hold out (though I doubt he would).

Is that correct? I thought that when they are eligible for an extension it can be used. It's how Lamar's contract was handled. Steve Young also got a non exclusive tag.

That may be true, but that doesn't mean you overpay him.
