I don't think so Montana… he is going in the wrong direction. Hanging passes, taking sacks, throwing behind receivers, not seeing open guys, forcing passes. He is contributing to losses instead of managing the game and he is not capable of putting the team on his shoulders to find a way to win. He is playing backup football right now..
Purdy has been a great find for us. Over his young career so far he has had some fantastic games. He could still work out to be a solid top-class QB for us to build around. He likely is not the new Brady / Mahomes / whoever, and that's fine.

This was not a good game from Purdy. Passes were consistently underthrown (and occasionally overthrown), which is unfortunate for a guy who usually has accuracy as a plus attribute. He did not lead with his play, and did not show calmness under fire in the important moments.
This is a game that was available for Purdy to win, and he didn't.

To be clear, this whole loss was not on Purdy, but this thread is about him, so I'm critiquing his play.

Purdy is not going to be paid based on this game alone obviously. My hope is that he gets paid like an NFL quarterback, but not like a superstar QB. Lots of incentivisation. Lots of room for cap wiggle on the organisations part. I'm hoping that Purdy's humble start to his career gives him some perspective here.

Dude, like usual, you misread my posts and put words into my mouth man. You really do this often and it's like I have to explain the obvious. I never said, Purdy is without any blame at all. I haven't said the dude is perfect. But to put most of the blame and want to cut him/not pay him..it's pretty ridiculous. To put as much scrutiny on Purdy as I have seen ppl post..it's just ignorant. We literally had some f**king loser walk out on the team..with all the other s**t that has happened. If ppl wanna b***h about Purdy..they can go watch Trevor Lawrence.

First off Campbell is a loser and is gone. He's NOT the reason the lost last night, so save me the deflection crap.

Josh Allen had 430 yards and 6tds vs this same D. His best playmaker was Khalil Shakir Brock wants to get paid with guys like him. Think about that.

How about you hold the most important person in sports accountable a little bit? It's clear as day he CAN NOT play in any sort of weather that's not 75 and sunny or in a dome. That's a f**king problem.

Everyone wants to blame Kyle for every little thing that goes wrong. He DOESN'T play football. He's not on the field. He's not the one that's gonna make a quarter of a billion dollars. He's not under throwing/ over throwing guys. He's not missing reads or throwing floaters into double coverage on 2nd down with a wide ass open Ricky sitting there underneath

yeah paying Lawrence was a mistake. What's your point? You think we should do the same s**t? Look I'm not some Brock hater. Overall he's hasn't played great this yr, take a step back and recognize that.
Purdy had a bad game. He's had about 3 bad games in the last 4 games. He's regressing frankly and his contract is getting cheaper and cheaper as the season goes along.

Money changes things. He has an agent and agents will demand top dollar not just for their clients but also to drive up the cost across the board. They set the market. As long as teams are willing to pay the market keeps increasing. Having him on a 5 year top dollar contract will essentially guarantee our mediocrity for the foreseeable future. He ain't the guy…

Bingo. Folks have some hesitancy with the idea of giving Brock a quarter of a billion dollars.

I generally agree. It is clear that Purdy is better than Jimmy G (not that hard to be) but needs perfect conditions (literally, no rain or snow) and great teammates around him. Purdy getting a 60m contract will greatly limit the 49ers's ability to build a good team around him. Certainly the 49ers can sign a handful of great players but the roster will have major holes. Heck, even now with Purdy on the cheapest contract a team can get the 49ers roster has holes and it shows.

What compounds the 49ers problems is that its roster is aging and most players on the wrong side of 20 or even in their 30s with a TON of miles on their bodies. It is clear from this year that many of the "core" 49ers are either washed (Deebo, Juice, etc.) or could be washed (CMC) or might not be the same after injury (BA). The future doesn't look bright right now

That's the only blessing in all this. It kind of gives the front office leverage during contract talk. No way Purdy's agent should be demanding 60-65 mil per during negotiations. And I hope front office doesn't cave in and give it to him. He's a 40-45 mil max contract. 3 years added to next which totals 4. Lots of incentives and lots of loopholes to cut ties if he botches.

1000% this. the more we see the less I like. No way is he worth elite money. No way. Not all on him but yeah, he is regressing to Jimmy g status.

Sucks because I do like Brock. He's a leader and says all the right s**t. He played hard and the team respects him. He's played good ball more than he hasn't.

The tangibles were never really there though. His special skill set is processing and anticipation. Overall those skills have regressed this yr for whatever reason. He doesn't have anything else to fall back on when that s**t is not where it needs to be.

he can't play in any sort inclement weather, I think we can safety say that at this pt. That's a problem.

We can all agree s**t hasn't been ideal around him either. Inconsistent OL play, missing stud play makers, guys like Deebo dropping would be TDs etc etc. That said when you're supposed to be the next star QB in the league, you gotta makeup for that s**t.

just watching the live game, I thought his pocket awareness was poor, I thought his mechanics were a mess which lead to poorly thrown balls. His vision was off as well. Not sure what the deal is with him.

Brock Purdy still my QB, fake ass fans the exit door is to your left with a big middle finger!!!

100% this.

What is wrong with people? No Christian, No Yuk, 4th String RB, no left guard and it is all Purdy's fault. Jeez Louise people need to get a grip.

There are plays available to him that he's just not making. How many under throws has he made in the past 3-4 weeks ? Overthrows ? Missed open receivers ?

regardless of injuries, he's leaving a lot on the field. The Rams were held to 12 pts last night. Brock had ample opportunity to break the game wide open yesterday. He just choked.

Agreed. Tua's contract is at 52m I believe. Right now Purdy doesn't look like he's playing at a Tua level. I wonder if he gets in that high 40m range as a result. Frankly, the way the 49ers have gotten burned on some of their recent contracts (BA, Deebo, Hargrave) the team should be looking to give Purday a contract that allows them to walk in a few years. So give Purdy a contract that looks like 50 to 55m 5-year deal so he can save face but in reality the contract is a 3-year 25m deal with a third year "out" clause for the team. That way we have Purdy as an insurance bridge QB but could keep him longer if he turns things around.

I don't like saying it but the difference in this game was not coaching it was the QB position. Brock took a chance when it should not have been taken. He should have checked the ball down to Pearsall or Taylor and on the play you have McKivitz getting beat like drum in the Trans Siberian Orchestra.

Never thought I'd say this... Jimmy might be better than Purdy.
If Brock is 100% healthy as Shanahan and Brock himself proclaim, this is even more concerning than we all can imagine.

He cannot throw a deep ball. He gives the defense every opportunity to catch up to the ball.
