i think we pay brock and i wouldn't mind a former high pick as QB2, Zach Wilson, Daniel Jones, Trubisky come to mind.

if the thought is kyle gets the most out of QBs, then why not get the most out of a guy with some high value traits that has fallen out of favor? QB2 is a needed position in many of the shanny seasons.

I'd like to see what Mordeci has to offer in these last few games. Not start him but let him get a little game action.

He did love Brock. We have no idea what he currently thinks.

Cap is all fluff. When these numbers get talked about there is so much BS at the top.

Jalen Hurts' contract is a perfect example of it. When it was reported it was basically the top contract for a QB almost 2 years ago. It was reported as a 5 year 255 million deal and highest ever.

Go look at his cap hits. His highest is just under 42 mil and that's not until 2027.

Two things I know.

Brock Purdy has won us a lot of football games since coming in as a starter behind Jimmy.
Brock Purdy is the best QB we have available realistically to help us win football games next year.

I expect the 49ers and Brock to get a deal done and even if it seems HUGE at signing I would be absolutely shocked that when the details came out that he was going to have cap hits anywhere near the $60 mark people are throwing around and if there was a year on the books like that, it would be way down the road where the deal can be reworked.

Now can you draft QBs and develop them to hedge your bet with Brock? Sure. Should they try to recreate the 2021 situation and make a jump for a top QB in this class? Definitely not. It would be a massive mistake.

Build up the trenches around Brock. Kyle also really needs to assess how his offense is built/executed late in games to ensure we're not at a disadvantage when we just have to throw the ball.

Oh and get Deebo off this roster. No more feeding guys who can't beat man coverage.

I think this offseason would be a better time to make a move in the draft for QB than 2021 was. I don't expect they will though.

For who? The 2021 class was considered much stronger at the top...which is why you saw 5 QBs go in the top 5. Obviously 4 of the 5 are no longer on their drafting team and even Trevor Lawrence the generational type prospect hasn't looked well.

Our roster has way more holes than it did in 2021. So you want to move up and draft worse prospects while we have a much better QB than the guy we were trying to replace last time?

Also what about that move in 2021 showed you that this regime can properly evaluate QB prospects?

Personally I'm terrified of Kyle/John making another big investment at the position. Definitely with the state of our roster right now.

The key word in your statement was 'considered'. That class was overrated because Covid had teams playing weird schedules and a lot of players sat out the season. It was unfortunate that the Niners were drating at #12 in a year like that. If they were drafting late like they usually do they wouldn't have made that trade to move up.

I agree with a lot of what you said in this post, and I already mentioned above I made my comment as a point about the state of our team, and not so much the individual prospects that might be available. The bolded would be what I would point to. This is a team in transition, especially on the defensive side of the ball. We also have a lot of talent on offense, when healthy. Lower expectations, but with veteran leadership and skill on offense. Seems like a good place to allow a young QB to grow, especially when the alternative might be overpaying a guy at the cost of filling some of those holes on the roster.

QBs haven't always regressed under Kyle. We have maybe two possible real examples of this in Jimmy G and Brock and I think the better point is he helped make both of them look a lot better than they are.

Jimmy G is really the only QB he's had for a real length of time.

Agreed, I'm not out on Brock. I just think he might have been playing above his level and was always gonna come back to the mean a little.

We will see, I rather let him play out his current deal and make a fair offer from there. I don't think SF is gonna go that route.

shanny and lynch are all in brock. this is shanny's starting QB for 3 years running now. they have done nothing other than say he's our guy. no threat to him on roster. and the last time they picked a non brock QB they complete botched it so hard it was the worst draft move in our history. so yeah, i think this is open and shut. brock is here long term they will be quick to do it is my opinion.

When was the last timeyou heard a HC say he didn't like his QB unless he intended to relase him or draft ome in the first round. Coaches don't rip their key players. That's left up to the fans and press.
Give Brock a top D and a solid Oline and he is everything we need. He'll never be top 5 but we don't need that.
This season has been a disaster from top to bottom, if D was healthy all her we are right where we need to be probably 10-4.

Brock will be back and we will be right back in the playoff picture nest year. Mark my words.

Defense just gave up 12 points and the offense scored 0 TDs

it's in the moves. if they weren't in on brock, they would bring in a roster challenge. or bench him. they openly said when healthy, he is our QB1, and that's what happened. i think kyle saw darnold was looking good every day, and there was never any thought to playing him. they like brock more. you don't let sam walk, he's in the mvp convo, and then you let brock walk. i mean what are you doing at that point?

Anybody paying attention should realize sentiment can change from one year to the next. Kyle has been a poster boy for this at the QB position. He also fully committed to Lance as a starter, didn't sign a competent backup to compete with him, and then completely changed his thought process within a single training camp.

Brock is still young. He is developing, and it amazes me that this is lost on so many people.

I know man, lost on so many people indeed.

Most coaches do their best to prop up a QBs confidence.
