I think we're getting some answers regardless of whether it's intentional or not. I just wouldn't like to think that we went into a possible contending season with the priority to find out whether our QB can handle a type of offense that isn't our speciality. I feel like we already should have known that answer anyway.

I don't think this is a night and day scenario...like they would go completely out of the way and force Purdy into corners week after week, and sacrifice a season. If you're gonna drop 1/4 billion+ on the guy, you gotta be pretty sure what he can/not do. As I said, I think this season is such a complete wash that for the most part, I can't draw any conclusion except for some stuff that I knew was an issue coming into the season.

I do agree that in a sense, I 'think' I am getting some answers as to what kind of QB Purdy is.

Do you mean last season where he had a 69.4% completion rate, 4,200 yards (franchise record), 31/11 TD/INT, and a league-leading 113 rating?

Right now, in his worst year, he is ranked #15 (just below Matthew Stafford) among all starting QBs without his go-to WR, no CMC, Trent has been hobbled for most of the year, down to the #4 RB, and the list goes on.

He will get paid.

Yea he was really good for the bulk of last season. I think his play has trended downward since the Baltimore game and regardless of the statistics I don't think he was as good as some fans believe. I had him as a fringe top 10 QB coming into this season (like 9 ish) and I think I was probably being generous.

I've said I think we will sign him. I don't think it will be a Jordan Love type deal.

Rivera is totally right. Purdy is a game manager. In no way is he a game changer and should be paid as such.

Yes, we see how little he impacts the game when Brandon Allen takes over.

Ron Rivera, a former top-level LB and defensive coach, has been so astute in developing an offense. Not. Sorry, his opinion means nothing.

Brandon Allen is a QB3 type. Of course there's a major dropoff from a quality starter to that kind of player.

One thing we all should learn. We need to stop going overboard with praise every time a new QB comes in and has a few good games. Just as it sometimes takes time for them to learn it also sometimes takes time for their limitations to show up. We saw it a little with Alex Smith but he never really had a chance with the coaching mess the Niners had then. Then we thought Kap was going to be the next big thing until we realized that he was lost in the pocket nd the league learned how to stop his runs. Next came JG with his 5 wins to end a season followed by an early season injury the next year. He comes back and helps get the team to a SB but collapses in the late 4th quarter. Then anthor injury. Warning! Now Brocks limitations are showing up when he doesn't have the OPOY.

There's a saying called the Peter prciple that goes something like this. We will all rise until we eventually reach our level of incompetence. It's the same with OCs and DCs that never become good HCs. It's one level too high.

Stopped reading right here. He has played exponentially more good games than "a few."

The Baltimore game was a turning point for sure. However, that was the first time Purdy, or Shanahan, had seen a defense collapse the middle of the field and play tight man coverage. They exposed the weakness in the anticipation passing scheme that Shanahan uses. Mike McDonald raised the bar in that game and it got him the HC gig in Seattle and now on top of the division using much the same scheme. Shanahan still hasn't found the answer.

To be fair, against a backdrop of potentially losing Aiyuk, the FO drafted Piersall to be the man-beater but we know how that has worked out so far. Without a man-beater, no QB in the league is going to survive against a good defense.

he may be right, game manager is very subjective. it's usually an insult but that's kinda what i want my QB doing. get your drop and get that thing out. everything is in rhythm on O, the routes, the blocks, you want that ball coming out on schedule. just distribute, let your guy do the work. for example, i am not shy of being a brady fan. i would absolutely call him a game manager. he was doing that his whole career, and crushing teams. brady is not some game changer physically like cam newton. with newton you can just play backyard ball and let him run ppl over he's 6'6 250 and can run. so it's hard to say, depends what you mean by game manager. now with brady he's barking at ppl in terms of what routes he wants run, getting in extra reps at prax, all the leadership stuff to stay on schedule as a team. he lifts the standard of the whole prax field and team operation. that's part of why he won so much. we should pay brock and it's his team he needs to be vocal and not just along for the ride.

Brady is also 6'4- 6'5 with considerably better arm talent than Brock on top of being arguably the smartest and most competitive player who ever played the position. He simply wasn't mobile.

Most of this is true, but I question whether Kyle' hasn't found the answer'. True, his WRs can't beat man to man coverage. JJ is not a X, I wonder why he hasn't tried Pearsall at the X . But, I don't believe Purdy can beat man coverage either, he just hasn't shown it. His completion rate against man is around 41% as opposed to 73% against zone.
You cant pay a QB $40+M/ yr that has those kind of splits.

'Game manager' means different things to different people. For some it's a terrible insult, lol.
