No one said he needs to find anything right now. Brock isn't a FA. He can play out his deal then renegotiate or get tagged.

Paying someone stupid money just cause is no different then giving away a bunch of 1sts and only playing him in a couple random games

This is a huge red flag. Huge.

is this the case last yr as well? I feel like we're only getting half the data on this for obvious narratives.

From everything I've heard and read about the teams the niners played this year is that they watched the Chiefs use man-man defense a huge percentage in the SB. This year those teams starting doing the same thing. Even teams without the talent to use a man to man defense switched. The only team that remained in their favorite Zone defense were the Bears. I believe Purdy's skill set, quick decision making, anticipation & accuracy is more suited for beating Zone defenses. I haven't looked at what teams did last year but I assume that if most of them switched from their preferred Zone to Man this year, that last year they were mostly in Zone. Deebo & JJ aren't Man beaters. I'm not sure if Pearsall can play the X, but he can't be much worse the JJ in that position.

This is very true. This is on Kyle to adjust (which hes tried but the current roster isnt built for it - also on Kyle) I expect an interesting offseason.

That being said. I would like to see Brock extended day 3.

Of course no one was complaining about paying Brock $900K last yr lol. He had the best roster in football around him. Now him eating up that cap, it's not gonna be exactly like that.

FWIW I never said he should be paid whatever he wants last yr. He has a great yr, but consistency matters. What can you do when s**t isn't perfect. I'd be looking at a Mayfield type contract for him.

shanny will pay brock what he seeks he's not playing hardball and finding a new QB1 8 years into his build. last time shanny got aggressive on QB1 he burned 3 ones on 4 starts.

The two times Kyle got "aggressive" with QB1 they ended up being losers (Jimmy, Trey). Maybe Shanahan should take the back seat on this one. Clearly he's not the best talent evaluator when it comes to quarterbacks so if he goes to Lynch / Jed and tells them to pay the man what he wants there's a good chance he screws us again.

my personal opinion is Kyle's stint in SF is about to end. Either he does it himself after this season (goes on a major bender, decides to call it quits so he can enter rehab), OR he does it the hard way by sinking this team in 2025 with his idiotic decisions / game plans. In any case, don't want his stench on this team beyond that so if we end up having to keep Brock at max contract at 60m and he's not worth it, then no thanks. Pay him what he's worth. If he's playing hardball like idiots eg BA, TW then either make him finish his contract next year or trade him…

The Chiefs just have the 49ers number like the 49ers have had Dallas's number for years now. Brock Purdy and the offense not beating man coverage, IMO is kinda of false narrative. I think we all know the missed opportunities and errors made in the Super Bowl, so I don't think we really need to go there. But lets face it, this team has been hit with a big injury bug and media/fans expect Brock Purdy to succeed without his top playmakers. Purdy is no, Brady, Mahomes-Vinovich or Joe Montana, Purdy is a damn good QB and that's all that matters. Give Purdy playmakers and he'll get the job done.

Brock to me is like Steve Young in the sense that I can see him winning at least 1 SB in his career, but he'll need another Avengers like cast like Steve with the 94 Niners.

You need the personnel to play straight up good man to man coverage though. It's not as simple as let's play a ton of man coverage this week vs SF.

also it's not like that's all teams do is play man all game. The lions play more man coverage than anyone at 42.5% (KC32.8), so there's still a ton of zone being used throughout a game. I do think Brock has gotten worse vs the blitz. Maybe im wrong but it seems like it.

I agree we need guys that can separate vs man. IMO Ricky is a damn good route runner. I don't think he's built to play split end. I think he's got a chance to be a good slot WR (get those free releases)….thats why I pounded the table for BA. He's an elite level separator that has the ability to lineup all over the place. He's been greatly missed this yr.

Put your bias aside and realize Kyle isn't going anywhere. Time to move off that silly debate. Talk about something else, maybe something that's realistic.

Also the moment Brock is paid it all but solidifies Kyle being here even longer. You're gonna have to deal with it.

so, you don't believe in data? Also, it not only about the Chiefs, look at the games this year and then why he was good vs the Bears. It's not a false narrative, it's a proven narrative. Now, if Purdy had WRs that were better vs Man then Maybe he would be better. Teams aren't switching their preferred style of defense for no reason.
Now that Brock is under a microscope, these final 3 games will set some further context.
The OL, the Weapons, the coaching, the field conditions, the possible injury,
weed all that out and just look at Brock.
Does he run the offense taking the free stuff, and avoiding the mistakes?
He seemed to be good at that.
Do we get a win?
Do we get a win because of, or in spite of him?
2 or 3 more post game, "it's on me, I gotta play better" episodes, and this dude has peaked.
I truly don't believe we could play the Lions to a 37-34 match up.
If he's Him, we'll soon know.

We had an elite man beater and paid him a ton of money. We had an elite play maker that was a miss match nightmare…both of them got injured and teams focused on everything else.

we lost 3,400 yards and 28TDs…It's not really deeper than that imo.

you see how SF does business. you get paid after year 3. to not do that on QB1 would be a radical move. not happening. they don't want radical, that was trey. they want QB1 to be 'solved. or at least not something they are trying to figure out.

Correct, but teams have increased the percentage of their Man coverage vs the 49ers this year. I don't believe they have increased it for no reason. Purdy has struggled vs Man. Why?, Maybe the protection is worse, maybe his decision making is slower, maybe he doesn't have the velocity to sneak it into smaller windows. I'm not sure.

Not sure what being elite has anything to do with it, it's what the market says and whether or not they wanna pay him a little more or a little less than market price. And if they don't think that Purdy is living up to his contract they'll renegotiate or ask him to take a pay cut like Hargrave did.

But I just find it funny that when we were on our way to the Super Bowl, no one really questioned what he should be paid. But now that he's having a down year, people are making all kinds of silly statements on what Brock should get or shouldn't get.

How about you let the market decide what he's worth….you think every team is gonna be lining up to pay him $250M? I don't…if he wants to be paid like Dak (which is a horrible deal) let him play out his rookie deal and then negotiate.

Purdy's numbers look pretty similar to Mahomes' this season and both quarterbacks have dealt with significant injuries at the skill positions. The biggest difference appears to be the touchdowns, where Mahomes has 22 to Brock's 15. That demonstrates to me that Patrick is more of a playmaker than Brock, which everybody already knows. If you ask me, the biggest question mark for Brock isn't so much the arm, or the zone/man thing, it is that Brock has consistently faded in the 4th quarter of games this season. Where everybody knows that even if Mahomes, Allen, or even Stafford, starts slow, at some point these quarterbacks are going to turn it on. I don't see that push late in games from Purdy. Sometimes it's luck, sometimes it's skill. Mahomes is a great 4th quarter QB, Brady was, and Montana was. Brock thus far fades late in games, often making stupid decisions with the ball trying to make a play, and that is a problem for the 49ers if they want to pay him $60m.

If you believe in the NFL Next Gen Stats figures, Ja'Marr Chase has been getting as much separation this season as Deebo Samuel (2.9yards) so are the WR's really different? Or is Brock?

Do you have numbers to show that? I can't find that data…like how often they saw man vs this yr.

it shouldn't be some shocking thing vs Kyle, his offense has always done better vs zone if my memory is correct? Why change it all of a sudden, dudes been calling an offense for like 15+ yrs.

It's not like Kyle is incapable of calling man beater plays…also if they're gonna call man all day, Brock needs to get those legs moving, free yards there all day.

I agree the decision making is looking slower. He's looking to toss the ball downfield a lot. He's 3rd in the NFL with time to throw. Yeah I agree with the lack of velocity to get into those tight windows. That s**t isn't gonna change, so he's got to get back to the quick processing and anticipation throws
