I think we're blowing Brock Purdy's contract situation outta proportion. The team will pay him what they think he deserves and they will protect themselves from it. Not sure what being elite has anything to do with it, it's what the market says and whether or not they wanna pay him a little more or a little less than market price. And if they don't think that Purdy is living up to his contract they'll renegotiate or ask him to take a pay cut like Hargrave did.
But I just find it funny that when we were on our way to the Super Bowl, no one really questioned what he should be paid. But now that he's having a down year, people are making all kinds of silly statements on what Brock should get or shouldn't get.
How about you let the market decide what he's worth….you think every team is gonna be lining up to pay him $250M? I don't…if he wants to be paid like Dak (which is a horrible deal) let him play out his rookie deal and then negotiate.
Of course no one was complaining about paying Brock $900K last yr lol. He had the best roster in football around him. Now him eating up that cap, it's not gonna be exactly like that.
FWIW I never said he should be paid whatever he wants last yr. He has a great yr, but consistency matters. What can you do when s**t isn't perfect. I'd be looking at a Mayfield type contract for him.
Purdy's numbers look pretty similar to Mahomes' this season and both quarterbacks have dealt with significant injuries at the skill positions. The biggest difference appears to be the touchdowns, where Mahomes has 22 to Brock's 15. That demonstrates to me that Patrick is more of a playmaker than Brock, which everybody already knows. If you ask me, the biggest question mark for Brock isn't so much the arm, or the zone/man thing, it is that Brock has consistently faded in the 4th quarter of games this season. Where everybody knows that even if Mahomes, Allen, or even Stafford, starts slow, at some point these quarterbacks are going to turn it on. I don't see that push late in games from Purdy. Sometimes it's luck, sometimes it's skill. Mahomes is a great 4th quarter QB, Brady was, and Montana was. Brock thus far fades late in games, often making stupid decisions with the ball trying to make a play, and that is a problem for the 49ers if they want to pay him $60m.
If you believe in the NFL Next Gen Stats figures, Ja'Marr Chase has been getting as much separation this season as Deebo Samuel (2.9yards) so are the WR's really different? Or is Brock?
