QB Brock Purdy Thread

If you ask me, the biggest question mark for Brock isn't so much the arm, or the zone/man thing, it is that Brock has consistently faded in the 4th quarter of games this season. Where everybody knows that even if Mahomes, Allen, or even Stafford, starts slow, at some point these quarterbacks are going to turn it on. I don't see that push late in games from Purdy. Sometimes it's luck, sometimes it's skill. Mahomes is a great 4th quarter QB, Brady was, and Montana was. Brock thus far fades late in games, often making stupid decisions with the ball trying to make a play, and that is a problem for the 49ers if they want to pay him $60m.

If you believe in the NFL Next Gen Stats figures, Ja'Marr Chase has been getting as much separation this season as Deebo Samuel (2.9yards) so are the WR's really different? Or is Brock?

textbook case of how advanced stats and metrics can give wildly inaccurate results compared to the ol eye test.

Brock will get 60+ in the offseason. He will not take nor will they offer him less. The second contract isn't based as much on what has been done on the rookie contract (though that has been nothing short of spectacular), it's based on potential.

It has nothing to do with potential. It's all about whether or not to pay him like a top 5 QB. The market has completely gone crazy and there's no reason he should be paid the highest amount in the NFL. NFL owners and the payers have lost their minds.
I'm out on giving this guy 60M. I accept it's probably going to happen, but I haven't seen enough to believe he can carry a team with that kind of cap hit. Even with the cap increasing, we're going to hit a wall somewhere. If he needs a solid supporting cast, which I believe he does, than we should pay him accordingly.

Purdy becoming the highest paid QB in the league may be inevitable since that's just how the league operates, though.

I'll be pulling for him on gameday regardless.

i'd pump breaks on him being highest paid for 2 reasons. 1 he ended up turning in a down year. that doesn't mean nothing. that means something and if the year is down, the deal should go down. 2, i don't know how much he could get on the open market. i don't know what team would just pony up $60m aav for this guy as QB1. i can't see any team doing that. i don't think teams would even want him as QB1. lot of QB1 jobs are filled, and those that aren't, teams want what they always want, those high end measurables. they would take a rook on a cost controlled deal over a guy with pick 262 traits at some absurd 60m aav. so we are probably the one team where brock is 'the man'.

Like I said, best thing for us is to do what the Ravens did with Lamar and do the non exclusive franchise tag. If he has no suitors it be around 38-42 mil for the year. If he some team bites, then we get two first round picks.

I think this is a pretty common feeling. No matter what he gets paid Niner fans will be rooting for him. Even the ones that don't think he's that good would prefer to see him do well. I agree that not many teams would be willing to pay him $50 mil plus. I think a lot of teams view his success as a result of the talent around him and the scheme. He wouldn't fit in just any situation.

I know I keep bringing this up but I just can't get my head around the fact that anyone would think $30 mil per year isn't enough. That still puts you in the top .1% of all earners in the country. Not just athletes but all earners. Top 300 in the country.

I am sure it will be one those contracts that 90% of fans will see the headline of Brock Purdy signs 5 for 300M. Then 20 minutes later all the insides come out with 49ers can get out of this pretty cleanly after 3 years and 120M.

We can't do that until he's a free agent. We'll be negotiating this offseason when he isn't one. Would love to see them play hardball and get to that point.

no team is biting, teams didn't touch lamar jackson, which i found silly at the time, but the reality is it's hard to get a QB1 job. not many openings. and teams like to defray cost. so get a rook or get a reclamation project.

He still has a year left on his deal so worst case scenario they'd pay him $42 million over two years if they're unconvinced on giving him a long term contract.

i'm just very skeptical that we play brock on no new deal. that's not our method of operating. of all the guys to earn a bump this is a major one. he got shorted 30m compared to lance, just because the NFL thought lance was better. the NFL was wrong, and it cost brock 30m. i don't know a lot of human beings who can take a 30m hit and just act like it's no big deal. it is a big deal. it's 30m. so brock is understandably wanting a revisit on his contract.

Of course no one was complaining about paying Brock $900K last yr lol. He had the best roster in football around him. Now him eating up that cap, it's not gonna be exactly like that.

FWIW I never said he should be paid whatever he wants last yr. He has a great yr, but consistency matters. What can you do when s**t isn't perfect. I'd be looking at a Mayfield type contract for him.

shanny will pay brock what he seeks he's not playing hardball and finding a new QB1 8 years into his build. last time shanny got aggressive on QB1 he burned 3 ones on 4 starts.

If this was an excellent QB draft at the top with elite blue-chip talents - I would get aggressive AGAIN on QB1 and burn 2 ones and a couple 2nds on a top 5 QB and trade up. If it took 3 ones I'd do it if I loved the player.

There just isn't that QB option available this draft I don't think. So we are a bit stuck and have to pay Brock.

4-years 200m with an out after 3 years is as much as I would go and I wouldn't feel great about it.

Who is the real Brock Purdy? The one from his first two years or the one from his last 18 games? Because if it is the latter, we are ****ed if we give him the bag. Only choice is to HOPE he can regain his form from his first two years like Hurts has done in Philly this year after a poor 2023 season.
