QB Brock Purdy Thread

Every oc is trying to scheme a player open for their qb to throw to. Kyle isn't the only guy doing this. In fact without play action he's been called out as one of the worst by multiple former players

You have the right idea of letting him walk if you don't believe in him. Holding out for another year doesn't do anything other than possibly making us feel better about singing a long term deal if he does well (which could still backfire long term)

If you want to get him a real OL and some speed on offense and continue to see his development through, then just sign him to a fqb contract now. Basing it all on next year is too fickle
When Leftwitch was asked what made Brady great he mentioned that if the flats there he's taking it every time

That's what Brock needs get back to. Just keep the offense on schedule. The big plays will come naturally, they don't need to be forced. We know he can make some plays, but he doesn't have the physical gifts for that to be his main style of play nor do we have the line or weapons for it. Mahomes could go crazy if he had weapons, but he knows what he has and just plays boring ball for the most part

Forget all the game changer/game manager bs and just play QB. He's far down the list of problems imo, but part of the reason we struggled to stay on schedule was him pressing for the big play
Anyone thinking Brock or any other player is taking "the hometown Bargain" is foolish. Brock will get the 55+ deal more than likely. I will say I don't think he has to go over Daks # to get the deal done since the Cowboys way over paid but very close to that # with other incentives or guarantees will probably be where it lands. We have the 10th most cap for 2025 and I believe that # will increase sooner than later as they redo or extend a few players and release a couple as well. There is no reason why they cannot sign Brock, Dre and Hufunga if they choose. I am pretty sure they will do something with Warners and Kittles contract as well.

You don't get paid a contract like that for what you've done. It's for what you WILL do and his path has been in a downward spiral

Prove it If you want to get paid Brock. You were awesome last year, but this year you've been average at BEST

Simple. He gets his age to say "no". Then he plays out next season and then off he goes.

I am amazed at this place. Who do you people imagine we will be able to pick up to replace him?

I'm fine with letting him walk. Except we could then franchise him. Some of you guys forget that the team has the power. We can pay him one million next year and then the low franchise the next if needed. That puts power into us low balling him.

so what if we do low ball him. He isn't getting 60 million from ANYONE else or 50 for that matter. Please tell me who is giving him that without simply saying "some" team
We won with Jimmy. Brock isn't that much better this year and seems to be regressing. Never pay top dollar to a QB that can't lead without the avengers. Brock can't lead like that. Move on before you pay

And IMO, this is FAR easier to teach than the opposite.

Best post of the week
Some have suggested that Purdy's struggles lately have been because of his shoulder injury. Is anyone concerned that he has had 2 injuries to his throwing arm in 3 years? And would you pay him $50-60M if that was true?

I agree with this.

His arm has looked pretty suspect at times this year . I'd have to go back and look at last years tape to see if it's my bias
People are claiming that he is holding the offense back. That he cant throw outside the numbers. That he cant throw a good deep ball. And I ask you this. How many of you were saying that last year? Dont answer. The answer is zero of you. Not a one. No, Brock doesnt have a rocket arm, but he had no problem throwing outside the numbers or deep last year. When he first took over from Jimmy, EVERYONE was excited because "we finally had a QB that could/would throw to all parts of the field."

You dont just forget how to throw downfield. You dont just forget how to throw outside the numbers. Just maybe, there are other factors as to why he hasnt had a great season? Could be:

-WR1 has been out for the season
-WR2 has been awful
-HOF LT has been hurt and the OL hasnt exactly been great even when he played
-OPOY has missed the entire season (which subsequently caused Kyle to go away from playaction)
-Shoulder injury (which I believe is still an issue)

Purdy is a damn good QB. Is he top 5? No. Is he top 10? I absolutely believe so. He is the best QB we have had since Steve Young. He is 24 years old. You dont just dump a QB like that because he had a mediocre season during a year that the whole team didnt perform close to expectations.

Kinda. He's been doing this since college and it got him in trouble the more he played.

hopefully he can dial it back and take what's there. Like I pointed out he's currently 3rd overall in Time to throw. That's not because our OL is just amazing, but because he's holding onto the ball and pushing it downfield into tight windows.

There is no kinda about it. Its absolutely easier to teach a QB to start looking for a checkdown than it is to teach a QB to start throwing downfield.
