QB Brock Purdy Thread

Purdy had the absolute best set of weapons in the NFL, and also had a dominant run game teams gameplan against first. He hasn't had it this year, but if you pay attention, the arguments about his play are not simply production based. He's not playing nearly as well from an individual standpoint. It would have been unrealistic to even expect the same level of production without the injuries. Last year was a special year in terms of efficiency for the entire offense, and I'd argue we also saw that start to come back to Earth late last year as well.

OTC gonna disagree with you here. You say Brock hasn't earned a top of the market deal? Who really has though, Jordan Love was paid after one good year. Trevor Lawrence has really done s**t in the NFL. Don't tell me Tua hasn't earned earned his contract either. Sam Darnold is about to be paid pretty damn good but for what, this past year?

If anyone has earned anything, it's Brock Purdy. People are down on him because of this bad year that really hasn't been all that bad.

Just a quick analogy, you're in the hospital visiting your kid. "Timmy, why did you jump off that cliff into the water?" He replies, 'My friends all did it."
There's probably only 5 QBS that deserve that $55-60M contract. I don't believe B Purdy is in that class. All the agents and players union want him to sign it, so the pressure is on the 49ers FO.

Smfh but I bet you weren't saying this last season. Yah that's what I thought.

Actually, I was saying ' I want to see at least 1 more year of Purdy before paying him big time'. But, Yah. you probably didn't hear me

Yah you're not the GM or Jed so you're not gonna get that one year. Like it or not they're paying Purdy.

Another reading comprehension problem. Read the bold again. I did get 1 more year, which is this year and he struggled quite a bit.
I'm ok with paying Brock (I just get the feeling their mind is made up, especially with Kyle in charge).

But what would make me feel more rest assured is if we still draft a QB and we keep Dobbs, or another FA QB with potential. No more Allens of the world.

Yes I worry about Brock's arm strength (or his own confidence in his arm strength), and weather games. I know not every QB plays well in bad weather... but it just seemed like we had no chance on offense at times. I would feel better if Kyle had some type of strategy to overcome that. Maybe another coach would know how to make the best of Purdy in those kinds of weather conditions.

The things I like about Brock, is stuff you can't teach. You can't go out and buy. His instincts. Now the bad oline play might have been too much for even his quick instincts, but if we improve protection.. he'll do the rest.

No, he wouldn't.....and you would be hard to find any coach, GM, scout, etc. that would say otherwise.

Last year was a special year no doubt, but as far as WR's the Purdy detractors vastly overrate our guys. Deebo does not fit at all with Purdy (he was a pick to fit with Jimmy G) and Aiyuk is not a true #1. Kittle's strength is his blocking so his receptions come when teams aren't expecting it. Building the team around Purdy and surrounding him with route runners who can catch with their hands will elevate the offense.

Deebo fits with any QB, just not as a number 1 guy. He's been an elite weapon, and certainly was one last season. Aiyuk is a number 1… he's just not a high end 1 like Chase. Kittle and CMC are weapons in the pass game that the Bengals can't rival and again, teams still have to account for our run game first. This is a massive advantage for any QB and one that Burrow hasn't necessarily enjoyed.

So you think Aiyuk and Deebo are better than Chase and Higgins? Cooked CMC and Guerrendo better than Chase Brown (as receivers)?

The Bengals have far better receiving weapons.

Yes, this season the Bengals have better weapons. Our team is dead.

It does not matter what weapons they have, Burrow is a better player than Purdy. The only argument one could make for Purdy is based on production in an elite offense with better skill players than any other QB enjoys.

Kyle will sign Brock to a max deal (expect 60m)
he will extend Allen
we will lose Dobbs
we won't draft a QB

this is our boy wonder head coach who has proven throughout his tenure here that he is NOT a good QB talent evaluator at all….

This year? The Bengals are better....but the QB play is night and day. There is no way the Bengals offensive skill players are the difference alone. Besides....every team that faces the Niners focus first on the running game, and Mason stepped into CMC's shoes and carried the load. Teams facing the Bengals focus first on Burrow and the passing game. The QB play is a major player, and Burrow is simply a better player than Purdy. Again.....go ask any coach/GM/scout/etc. and you would overwhelmingly get the same answer.

Overall is not terrible but the lack of protection at the front of the pocket is terrible. Brendell is the lowest rated Center in the league in Pass Protection. The result has been Purdy not being able to step into throws or being forced to move laterally to stay alive.

It only takes one bad apple to spoil the barrel.

The other apples aren't exactly fresh either.

He's not in that class. The Niners are in a tough spot with this decision but their hands may be forced.

Brock is better than Tua or Lawrence.
