Explain redo?

The only thing they can do is restructure, which is just converting a player's base salary or roster bonus into a signing bonus. That makes his cap hits higher in the following yrs and increases his ability to be their guy even longer. Same if they extend. They're only doing that if he's still playing great.

you don't do that if they aren't playing great or if you're good eating a massive amount of DM.

this thing is overblown. i see ppl paying goff and doing great. adding darnold and doing great. i see denver taking a record dead money hit and they are having a great year, with a bright young QB1. let's quit acting like this brock payday is the end of the franchise. it isn't.

Outside of Mahomes no QB that eats up more than 13% of their teams cap space has won a SB.

Thats not overblowing anything it's a fact.

massively overpaying any player is not good for business.

i don't know if you are understanding these deals. love got a deal for example

the cap hits are 20m (8%)
29m (10.8%)
36m (12.3%)
then an out..

i wouldn't forecast him to get anything crazy beyond love and goff and these other league comps. those numbers seem reasonable to me. the love numbers come in at under 13% so fits your formula.
it's just strikes me as so silly that he makes basically the lowest contract in NFL history for a QB1. and we see no problem with that, then we want to stiff the guy, or call him massively overpaid, no dude, he's massively underpaid. if we pay him, he'll be paid correct for the first time in his pro career. that's how i see it. he's out earned right now by the long snapper.

What's Love at? 55m? Tua is at 53m, right? I'm guessing he's going to want closer to 60m.

he'll work with us and those initial cap hits will be small compared to that

I chuckled that the "annual contract value doesnt matter" guy used annual contract value to make a point.

He can sign for 60 and not count for 60 against the cap. And by the end of the contract 60 won't be far off from 13%

thank you. he was corrrectly dropping that on ppl for a while, and it's like he forgot his own advice.

That's the way the NFL works though......he is on his rookie contract and there is a set amount that any rookie can make on that first contract. I agree he has outplayed that rookie contract but again.....that is the way the NFL structures rookie deals so that they don't hold out like they used to do. And no one that I've read is saying that he is being massively overpaid on his rookie deal. But the reason we were able to do so well for the past few years is because Purdy was on his rookie contract, which allowed us to be able to sign great players in other positions.

When you say he will be paid the "correct amount" on his next deal, I agree, but the discussion is trying to define what the "correct amount" actually should be. Some fans seem to be fine paying him 60 or 65M per year......other fans want to see the correct amount be more like 40 to 45M per year to see how he does.

IMHO he is not an elite QB so I'm hoping the correct amount is on the lower end of the range.

the reality is he is massively underpaid, and i see ppl in here quaking in their boots oh no he may be massively overpaid. well fair is fair. he played on a joke of a contract by nfl standards, we won playoff games, he blew out his throw arm which is his livelihood. i heard no complaints from brock he just played ball. you have a guy doing everything right, saying all the right stuff, playing his tail off and we don't pay this guy? we just say thanks and it was nice knowing you?.. not gonna happen. we are gonna pay him, and he earned it. that doesn't mean he's elite, just means he did enough to get a 2nd contract.

We drafted him, kept him, put him in arguably the best position in the league for any QB in terms of surrounding talent. We will pay him because we think he's worth it going forward not because he's underpaid now and we owe him for that time period and he's a good guy who works hard.
I think most people would generally agree that Purdy deserves to be paid. I also think most people believe that the 'next man up' when it comes to getting paid is flawed. There is no way I'll agree to a system that puts a good 10 QB's or so getting paid more than Josh Allen or Pat Mahomes. I can see a couple of guys, like Burrow and Lamar....Herbert as well....but not guys like Lawrence, Kyler, Goff, Hurts, Tua, Prescott, Love, etc. etc..

Love has a triple-bonus structure which reduces his cap. Love has the 3rd most total cash. Thats an owner decision more than a GM decision.

I'm not all about awarding players one of the highest contracts in football off a s**t year, especially when he's not even done his rookie deal.

That 13% formula was also based off that best QB in football winning it lol. Brock ain't that. He needs top end talent around him. Goff has this yr and next yr before that % goes through the roof…better win one in 24/25 or he also falls victim to that formula.

Those numbers are fluff….tua is more $41M if you look at when they can get out (with DM) and Love is more $30M. Dak's deal this ridiculous lol, dude is legit making around $60M before they can move off. Not f**king way should Brock get that kind of cash.
